Anyone know exactly how the security system works? A forum member recently had his car lifted (C5), and this prompted a discussion on how easy it is to steal a car and bypass the alarm. So, I was wondering how easy it is to do for a C6.
Has anyone installed a kill switch? Wondering how it can be done.

The ECM won't supply fuel and spark unless the fob and RCDLR agree on the rolling code and authorize the BCM to tell the ECM to start. There's no way, short of reprogramming, to hotwire around that. If thieves want a C6, they'd better bring a flatbed.

A physical kill switch is a HECK of a lot easier to work around than the security handshake that's embedded into the fob & car. You're also probably asking for electrical problems (not to mention a serious hassle re-programming your preferences all the time!) with a car with this much technology integrated if you install a physical switch somewhere in the line.
One more good reason why the key FOB is here to stay! I know a repo guy who said they HATE the C6 because they must have a flatbed to take one. He said C5's are a piece of cake and no flatbed required...........
I'm putting the new Clifford alarm system in. Tilt/Motion/Perimeter and a supposed 1 mile range on the 2 way remote. System is so new, it's not even on thier website (starting to ship on 5/15). Already bought and paid for.
I'm fairly confident that the car can't be started and driven away without a correctly programmed FOB - BUT, I have enough $$ into this car now (performance mods and stereo gear) that flatbeds, wheels thiefs, window-breaking stereo thiefs, etc., are a concern.
I'm not even planning on wiring starter kill, interior lights, etc. with the system. It's going to be installed as a standalone - completely independant of the cars systems. I DO want to know if someone is "hovering" around my car, trying to jack it up, flatbed it, or break/reach in and steal something from the interior. With a 1 mile range, I can park my car and know if it's being messed with - and rudely surprise would-be interlopers with a nice .40cal warning.
Kill switch is a waste of time, due to the FOB and the inability to get the car to start without one - there's no way around that.

The factory put then on some 2005s, it was RPO DBS
Rick - I like the mods list on your sig - looking pretty good!
I guess a kill switch isn't necessary on the 6th generation after all! A trunk monkey would be nice, though.
A trunk monkey that can SHOOT STRAIGHT!
That doesn't include the upgraded electronics (I'm JONESING for the AVIC-Z1, used AVIC-D1 anyone?). All in all, I've got over $24K over sticker in upgrades, most of which my insurance co will beat me up even worse over, than the depreciation on the car itself.
A good security system is a small price to pay for the peace of mind of knowing if my car is being screwed with when it's not in my garage.
