Hey guys...I remember reading a while ago about places where people put their ez-passes. I tried using search, but I couldnt not find the thread, so I need your help.
I am looking to put an ez-pass in the car, but I hate to put that crap on the windshield. Does anyone have anywhere else to put them? I remember someone said that there was a spot under the hood that they put theirs in a plastic bag and it stayed fine.

Someone else in Illinois posted that his did not work when inside the console, but I've used mine about a dozen times so far, seems OK.
Just be sure, as agrumpyguy said, to have the proper side facing up.
If mine continues to work OK, I may put the velcrolok strips inside the lid of my console, so nothing shifts around.
Same Here i Take it out when i am on the highway and just lay it on the dashboard or leave it in my cupholder and whn i drive up to the toll i hold it in my hand by the windshield...
Once, my E-Z did not register when I had it in the console.
I think because my arm was resting on the console blocking it.
Other times it did register.
On the Orange County Toll Roads the pass must be visible or a ticket will be issued. A CHP officer sits at the toll booth and if he doesn't see it, he will chase your down and give a ticket. Too many people were going through without paying. A camera takes your picture but some don't have front plates. I don't know who that would be. I keep my pass in the console and put it on the dash when needed.

Doesn't the toll booth light signal non payment some how? Wouldn't that be better than chasing people down for NOT showing (heaven forbid) their electronic pass? Oops.. I forget we're talking about the land of fruits and nuts! Some of those CHP boys need to get a life... As a former state LOE I couldn't see myself chasing people down for something like 35 cents. Might be better if states stopped with all this toll thus making the roads a lot safer period. Did you know that toll collections are the number 1 direct cause of accidents on limited access highways? We had so many deadly accidents on I95 in Connecticut that tolls were finally abolished. The worst was an accident cause by a tractor trailer in 1983 that claimed 7 victims including a 6 year old boy! The truck hit the stopped cars doing 60 mph! The victims that survived the initial crash were then burned alive at the Stratford, CT toll plaza. I was on duty and arrived shortly after the crash. It looked like a WAR ZONE and I have HATED GD toll booths and the idiots that want them ever since! Here's some good info on the subject. I ask if your money grubbing pinhead politicians really care about public safety? Ahhh.. the answer is a resounding NO!!
The Associated Press article shines the light on how toll roads increase accidents, throughout the United States, caused by drivers stopping at toll booth plazas with cash booths which increases rear-end collisions.
When electronic tolling is added to the hazerdous equation, as an option to cash booths (as will be the case in Austin - thanks to Mark Strama and others) the studies show accidents are increased even further.
"Toll plazas have been designed for 50 years without national design standards," Dan Walsh, an investigator for the National Transportation Safety Board, said Tuesday. "The need for standards is paramount," Walsh said.
As stated in the new AP Report:
Investigators also said that traditional toll booths, where drivers pay attendants or throw money into an automatic coin machine, increase the danger of rear-end collisions because drivers must stop suddenly.
NTSB investigators said:
_49 percent of all interstate accidents in Illinois are at toll plazas, and three times as many people die in them as in accidents on the road itself.
_30 percent of all accidents on the Pennsylvania toll highway system happen at toll plazas.
_38 percent of all crashes on New Jersey toll highways are toll plaza accidents.
Introducing electronic toll collection lanes, though, can make the problem worse.
Mohamed Abdel-Aty, associate professor at Central Florida University's department of civil and environmental engineering, studied the Orlando-Orange County Expressway system in Florida.
Between January 1994 and June 1997, 31.6 percent of total crashes occurred at the 10 main toll plazas and 46.3 percent at the 38 toll booth ramps, Abdel-Aty found.
Introducing E-PASS electronic toll collection lanes beside the regular lanes increased the accident rate at the busy Holland-East Mainline Plaza, he found.
"It's the mixture of E-PASS lanes and other lanes — the confusion from nonfamiliar drivers — that's causing most of the rear-end collisions," Abdel-Aty said.
Another report, produced by Citizens Against Tolls in New Jersey, used data directly from the New Jersey Department of Transportation. That report documents how accidents on the New Jersey Parkway toll road are up to 5 times as frequent compared to accidents on a non-tolled road.

I mounted mine on the radiator shroud.
I got the EZ Pass exterior tag (which normally gets mounted to the front plate) and using marine grade velcro I attached the tag to the radiator shroud next to the air filter.
It is under the hood, out of sight, and works just fine.

You must wear a big watch or have a rod in your arm. Skin will not block the signal.

Same place here but drilled some holes and tie wraped it.

Yo Husker,
That sure lit a fire under your butt. Everyone hates tolls.
EZPass is so cool. But sometimes I miss the occasional Toll Taker that insists on counting their $ while you're sitting there waiting to pay. NOT
I understand the concept of a “Use Tax” but I’m not sure that tolls are the way to go. It costs the Hwy commission a lot to get your $. Toll taker salaries; installation of equ/booths/scanners etc; the entire infrastructure to gather and distribute the $ collected has to cut significantly into their revenue. It would be SO MUCH easier if they just bumped up the state gas tax a penny or 2 (Flames Expected) and did away with ALL Tolls Nationwide.
And think of this cost: 200,000 cars a day, slowing from 60 to a dead stop then accelerating to 60 again. How much more gas is consumed on the stop versus just letting the car cruise by @ 60 MPH. Multiply that my 200,000 cars a day and you’re talking some serious gas consumption, not to mention break & clutch wear.

In Orlando they have EZ pass hi-speed lanes you do not stop or even slow down. If you don't have a ez pass you must go thru a toll booth off to the right of the road. Great incentive to have an easy pass

In So. Florida we have SunPass, same as Orlando: drive through without stopping. You're supposed to slow to 25 but few people do. If you go through too fast and it doesn't register, worst case scenario is you get a letter in the mail with a photo of the back of your (showing the license pate) and you just call Sun Pass and give them your transponder number and they charge your account the toll. No fines, no hassle.
I'm going to try the tape to underside of console lid and if that doesn't work, will go the under hood route. Thanks for the ideas!

In our high speed lanes you go thru at the speed limit 65 70 mph. Booth is only for non-ez pass cars..
