I kicked it around forever b/c I love the factory unit in our Expedition. I decided not to get it because the vette will never be used for long trips.
I have kids, and our trips are in the Ford. If it were just my wife and me, I'd probably get it. I couldn't justify the expense b/c the practicality wasn't there for me.
Your situation may be different, but in my case, I don't regret not having it. It does look cool, however.
If you use the car for business and/or traveling to places you aren't familiar with then the NAV may be worth it. Since I don't do that the NAV isn't of much value to me. I bought a car off a dealer lot but would never have ordered NAV.
If you get the NAV and really want a 6 CD changer, you can get one from GM that goes in the left rear storage bin in the back. Very simple hookup to the XM module located nearby. Fully integrated with the NAV when installed. You can get it from forum vendor Fred Beans
I ordered the Callaway Honker from Corvettes of Houston and it came in on a Friday when no one was home. UPS does not deliver on Saturday here so I had to go there and pick it up.
Had no earthly idea where the UPS depot was. Used the NAV to get there and it took me on the scenic route through city traffic. I usually drive in the burbs and the rural areas. The 1-4 skip shift which had never been a problem before, was giving me fits.
I made it to UPS. Guess what I orderd from Corvettes of Houston on the following Monday.
CAGS eliminator.
So, if your car is a manual coupe MN6 Z51 in Daytona Sunset Orange Metallic, then you definitely need the NAV........and the CAGS eliminator.

Just wondering if the Nav unit is worth having or not. Does it work very well. Also if you don't get the nav can you have a 6 disc cd changer instead?
Nav Unit is a personal thing. If you don't use it, then it's not worth it obviously. If your car is a dialy driver like mine and you routinely need to go to new places, then it is worth. Even if yours is not a daily driver but you like to go to new places and explore around the area, then then its worth it. If none of the above, then skip it... Me, I use mine every week...
And yes, you can buy a 6-cd changer with the Nav unit, but I have not been able to confirm if the 6 CDs will be MP3 capable...
I have a Nav unit in my CTS and I love that one. However I chose Not to put on in the Vette. Eventually I will scrap the Blose sound system, at which point I will install an after market double din Nav CD/DVD etc etc etc head unit for a few hundred moer than the OEM Nav option. It will not be compatible with the HUD, but other than that the aftermarket units are soooo much better.
I have NAV in another car and it was cool for a few months. I havent used it in the past 9 months.
I have one in my 300C and I've used it once. It's subjective though, I can see where folks that have them and become accustomed to them like them a lot. Until they're more like lytmup desciribes, I won't pay for another one.
The advantage with the factory NAV is that it is integrated with the cars heads-up, etc. Reasonable price as well. Other than that, I would go with aftermarket like the newest Eclipse unit. Sounds awesome, looks factory, and has some really nice features.
OH the C6 Corvette emblem (Nav Off) at night, in traffic turns some heads.. 4in X 3in ?? I forget, Im still in Baghdad for another couple weeks, see ya soon.
She keeps changing the background color to pink and I'm right back to blue.. 3rd grade stuff I know..
Wouldn't be without mine. Don't know where a new store is, no problem, just stick the address or phone number. If you really like maps, no problem, bring a map along too.
If you live in a smallish town that you are very familiar with and rarely go outside of the areas you know well probably not worth it. here in the SF bay area and the surrounding area I wouldn't be without it.
Right now the wife and I are house hunting again and whether we use the BMW or the Corvette (kidding I have ridden in the BMW 1 time since I got the C6) the Nav system is a massive stress reudcer. On a weekend we see 10 houses in the same time it took us before to see 5or 6 in the entire bay area. No arguing no whining or getting lost.
I guess like someone said earlier it depends on your needs and driving area/style.
From: Muncie, Indiana ...... Can I buy an amplifier on time ... I ani't got no money now but I'll pay you before I die
I love how it tells you that a turn is coming up a half a mile before you get there. When my wife would give directions she would always tell you about a turn as you drove passed it.
