First you need to separate need from want. If you want it then you've already justified the cost. If you need it then you've already justified the cost. Does the system work? From a purely technical point of view it works as good as the best of the on-board OEM GPS systems. Does it have some shortfalls? Yes. My major gripe is it doesn't have Bluetooth. I thought the 07's would have addressed that. But then GM is pushing OnStar so who knows if Bluetooth will ever appear?
Other folks will have their list of faults, but from a "will it get me from point A to Point B" it will. I particularly like the integration of the NAV instructions with the HUD. Often the NAV screen is wash out due to the sun. So while the nice lady will still be guiding you you'll also have her instructions repeated in the HUD. Very slick.
Some weeks ago someone out in Kalifornia posted a thread about buying and getting his new WCC wheels installed. All he did is plug in WCC's phone number and they popped up on the NAV screen as West Coast Corvettes along with their street address. Once he hit the "guidance" button the system took him to WCC's front door even though he was several hundred miles away and had never been there. You can find places by the traditional street address, name or phone number. Very cool.
I like the "I'm hungry" command. Of course the wife wants to know if the car can also find a gym?
I love mine. Wouldn't be without it. I sometimes use my portable Garmin unit (2610) in the vette also because I can program the route with my home computer.

That would be a nice feature to have in the C6 unit.
...One thing a specially appreciate is when you have to drive in dark nights (as you get older this become more challenging as your eye need more light)...the NAV will show you the road ahead...no more last moment confusion...confidence regained
One thing I've never seen mentioned about NAV units is that I appreciate it for just informational purposes. Specifically, I will use mine even on trips I've made many times just so that I know where I am. How many miles until my next turn, how many miles to go overall. Anytime I am more than a half hour from home I will hit the home Destination even if I know the route very well.
The NAV in my '05 Denali provides accurate (i.e. quickest) routes 90% of the time. But the other 10% often leave me scratching my head. My DVD says 2004 so I went to the dealer to buy an update and he told me to goto www.gmnavdisc.com and input my vin to see if I get a free upgrade. I didn't really care since I thought a new DVD would be $20-$40. I was floored when I found out it would be $199. He told me they used to be $600 so I should be happy. FWIW, '06's get 2 free upgrades.
For starters it is touchscreen for everything radio mp3s and etc
It is fully integrated with the car meaning the heads up display and so on
Plus the different modes when it is in street mode it shows the directions in the hud and also the pois comming up on it
Plus you can talk to it !
so what??
CORE functionality is missing.
touchscreen use????? HAHAHAH. Thats a
Im saying that after so long, you simply will not use it for directions, so the integrating with HUD wont matter.
who the he!! cares of you can talk to it. That sounds like a rationalization on why people get it.... kinda like marketing hype.
All of the things that you mentioned are bells and whistles. Until Navigation integrates with traffic and the maps dont live on a CD/DVD, it will be no more than a novelty. And a very expensive novelty at that seeing how you HAVE to get the 3LT first before you can select the NAV.
Not if you use it for more than once in a while planned trips.
I am in sales and use my navigation unit every single day. The factory unit is a very poor option for the price, even if you can see it in your heads up. It is frustratingly limited. If you ever use a good unit like Garmin offers, you will be very disappointed at how much you are limited with the factory unit.
