My C6 coupe seems to have a decent tint without the film. On my '96, I tinted the windows because we spend time in the high country, but found it hard to see around corners at night. I'm staying with the original on the C6 for now. Later in the summer, maybe I'll change my mind.
I, too, had a '96 and noticed the same thing you report. I, too, feel no current need to tint the hatch. In California, the driver's window and passenger's window cannot be noticeably tinted or LEOs will make a traffic stop
Thanks Guys, had it done and I like the look much better than without,
and also gives a little added privacy which I like, but the problem is the DOTS as yall stated. The installer did a one piece job, but up by the dotted area it is pealing back a little. They said give it a few days and bring it back and they will take care of it.We will see.

Take a microfiber towel and press the film into the dots with a lot of pressure. If you do that every day for the first week or so when the film is warm it will bend around the dots and stick to the window better. I've done that ln all my C5s and my C6 and the dot area comes out pretty good. It doesn't come out perfect, but close enough that you can't see the difference from a few feet away. Here's a part of my C6 window after a week of "pressing":
Thanks Guys, intend to get it done in the morning, was told it can be done with one piece. Did say something about maybe having to bring it back in a week or so to take care of the dot area, tends to not bond very well sometimes.
I read a tip here on the forum to have the installer use a glue stick with clear glue (like our kids use) on the dots area before the install that it will stick the tint like crazy.

It will work perfectly using the clear glue stick. Since i am the one that left the tip on the forum. I promise it works perfect.
I'm planning to have my windows tinted - even though I'm not supposed to I plan to do a very light tint on my side windows. Do I need to give the installer any instructions on how to deal w/ the indexing windows? I don't want to have a 1/2" gap at the bottom of my windows

If he has not already dealt with indexing windows, find another dealer. Indexing windows are not unique to the C6. The rear window on the coupe is, however, one of the most difficult windows to tint. Make sure your dealer is experienced with doing the C6 rear window. If he is, he has probably also already dealt with the indexing windows.
Most tints today are metallic. That does not mean they are the shiny reflective type. They are made by sputtering a very thin layer of a metal onto the film. Some newer tints are now made using ceramic or carbon in place of the traditional metal materials.
Im guessing the carbon tint is more expensive than the metallic tint or do they run around the same price range?

Get a 3M product without the metal otherwise u will have problems with a navigation system if installed. Otherwise you are good from a reputable installer.
IMHO a car is not complete without some tint...but I live in So Cal and there is a lot of sun. But more important, I love the look of medium tint on the sides and dark on the back window. By the way ANY tint on the side windows is illegal here, despite what you hear to the contrary. That said, many of us defy the law and do it anyway, and even drive with no front plate.
I had my tint installed by Hamid at Sunshield Tinting in Van Nuys in case you guys in the Valley need somewhere to go. He has been there for over 20 years, and is right across from StickerCity where my ClearBra was put on. He uses Llumar film. I hear that is pretty good. I have never seen so many signed celebrity photos of "A" celebs. on anyones wall, and I have lived here my whole life. Lots of high-dollar cars in the lot, I think mine was one of the "cheaper" ones. Yet he charged me $125 (but I have a Vert) and shook my hand and thanked me for my business when it was done. And the tint was done perfectly, I might add. No scuffs on the seats or smudges anywhere, like it was a buddy working on my car. And I am a freak about that stuff!
