Twice now the servicing dealer has told me that i should have "new software" downloaded. of course, at my expense. i said "no." i was wondering if the "software update" is necessary or helpful to my car running well. i suppose it is some sort of either tuning software or diagnostic software. does anyone have an opinion? is my dealer/tech trying tio further rip me off? thanks in advance.
I ask my dealer to check when I go in for anything at all. They just have to hook up the diagnostic machine and it will tell them if all the software is updated. There is supposedly diagnostic as well as other software updates available from time to time. HOWEVER, these same guys did not know about the software update for the early 05 nav radios that would enable them to play MP3's. I did that one myself.
My check engine light came on about 3 months ago, when I took it to the dealer they said that all it was was a software update needed... who knew that our cars have software timeframes...

I have not heard that before, maybe I've missed something.
But if not, it's sounds like a smooth parry by your dealer, just hoping that the error won't return.
As per GM,the dealer should perform a software update to your vehicle only when the update is to correct a specific complaint documented on your repair order. If the printout of the update that is required to be attatched to the repair order does not address the concern on the repair order,GM will not pay the dealer for the procedure. For obvious reasons,GM doesnt want the dealers performing updates to every vehicle that comes in the shop.
You should never have to pay for a software update if your vehicle is under warranty

How does On-Star fall into all this then????????? That little deal cost me $548.00 that included a 3-yr subscription.
Well I Know you Need the Update if you want to Use The Predator..But Dont know why they would charge you...
My car has not been reflashed and my Predator, thus far, has worked flawlessly to upload and down load tunes and monitor the car. James from runningwiththedevil.com did mention that I may want to have it reflashed though.
