I have had my 06 C6 LMB Vert for about 8 weeks now. I have 3900 miles on her and saw that the front tires seem to be wearing down fast. I read some complaints about alignment issues with the new ones. I took it to the dealer and they checked it out and all 4 wheels were off bad. They said that they have had a lot of issues with this.
IMO, Anyone buying a new C6 should have the dealer check asap.
A friend of mine has a Z06 that has alignment problems ,twice to the dealer & at 3,900 miles worn to the wear bars. No it's not from burnouts! Only on the outside of the rear tires.
Can the tires be covered by warranty? I dont think it is an extreme expectation to have a proper alignment on a new car. Chewing up expensive tires when you did nothing wrong is not acceptable.
This has been mentioned before. The factory alignment is mediocre at best. Those that say the factory alignment is good will be complaining about tire wear sooner than later.

Is it really necessary to go to a dealer for the alignment or just head to the nearest Goodyear place?

Not necessary to go to dealer. Many dealers don't have the laser alignment machine anyway. Most Goodyear places have the machine but don't always have a long enough rack for the C6. I ended up having Goodyear send me to a Firestone dealer that had both. Took about 45 minutes and $70. My wheels came out in perfect condition(no scratches). My front left and right rear were off and adjusted accordingly. They supplied the documentation from the machine readout and of course I was allowed to watch the process. The laser machine is pretty cool. If you haven't seen it work they put on on these things that look like a sattelite dish on each wheel and a flashing light in the front interacts with all of the electronics. Pretty .
I was surprised that myalignment was as off as it was. Now my baby has new shoes and they are all pointing in the correct direction.

Actually I would avoid the dealer. Only the largest of dealers would have the right type of alignment equipement. Unless your dealer specializes in sports cars I would go to an independent alignment shop.

would a dealer charge $ to correct factory misalignment, or would it be covered under warranty?

I believe you are intitled to an alignment under warranty if you are below a certain mileage. Tell the dealer it pulls to one side and demand an alignment. Since its warranty work they won't refuse you.

Service manager says that there was not enough wear to warrent any discount toward new ones. She said there was enough tread left on the tire to last a while. I tried arguing, but no luck. Glad I pasid attention and kept an eye on the wear so I caught it in time. Thanks to all on the CF that brought this up earlier in other threads.
This isn't only a C6 issue. I know of owners of GM and Ford products that had their tires ruined within a few thousand miles. This is a MUST for all cars.
