Default A/C problem

My A/c blows cold but out the defroster and partially out the side vents. Anyone have this problem??? Aside from a vacuum problem which I assume may show a DIC message. I can't see any problems. A/C cold and car running fine.

This has been a gm problem for as long as I can remember.
It is a vacumme problem ,or the cable is broken that opens the vent door.
Sounds like a planned visit to the dealer.

May be a silly question, but you have tried using the 3rd button from the right side that shows a person sitting, in order to redirect the air where you want it to go, right?

You said there was air coming out of the defroster vent. Is the light on in the defrost button (2nd from the right)?

Yes the controls are set properly. Not a silly question. Sometimes the simple is overlooked. Thanks

You may have the A/C mode door malfunctioning or broken. My air was stuck in defroster mode. The fix was to remove entire dash to replace the A/C mode door.

Before you panic, try the 'disconnect the battery for 10 minutes or more' routine. Maybe something will reset.

Any change if you put the system on AUTO?

It is almost certainly your mode actuator. It controls the flap that directs air to each chosen vent location. Common problem, but if it need replacing you will tearing the dash apart.

Well car went to the shop Monday morning and now it is Friday and they don't have a clue to why the A/c won't blow out from the center ducts. They rerpogramed the computer, replaced an actuator and lastly the whole control head!!! They have been dealing with GM tech over the phone. Hopefully this story won't continue much longer.

My C6 would blow cold air out the drivers ducts and hot air out the passenger ducts even though both were set to 72...
Dealer had to pull the dash and replace some sensor?

Well It's Monday and it has been a week and they still can't find out what is wrong with the A/c duct. Service manager has been in touch with GM and they have no history with this problem!!!! I'm trying to remain calm and civilized but the fuse is starting to get shorter. The dealer has been fine and upfront but I think after this amount of time Chevrolet should get a little more pro active, like send someone to the dealer. Maybe I'm getting unreasonable but I WANT MY CAR!!!!

Just an update in case anyone is interested or may have the same problem

It has been ten days with no result. Today the dealer called and a GM tech is coming down and they are going to remove the dash to check all the wiring harnesses. No matter what they have done so far A/C will not blow out of center ducts!!! Supposedly Chevrolet has never run into a problem like this

Here is my saga on the A/C mode door. It was only blowing on side and defrost. Hope you get yours fixed. Took my guys two months to get the correct parts.

Damn, I'm sorry I missed your original post, because that is exactly what they found broke on mine today! GM tech wanted them to pull the dash to check wiring harnesses and they found the door broken. Fortunately since GMs tech is invovled they will have the part on Monday.

Glad they finally found out what it was. Hopefully, they'll have it fixed Monday, if that's when the part is supposed to come in.

I'm starting to see a vicious trend here. Hope these are isolated cases, as the rest of us may be in for some painful reality in the near future. Good luck 6speed on a speedy resolution.
