Default thinking getting a vette

It is a great car. I really want to get one. However, the 2 seats bothers me because I have kids. Putting them in the trunk?

You either have to be single or have no more kids in house ? I guess it is tough when you have a family. Unless you can afford several cars. What do you guys think? I am considering a Mustang GT as the alternative. At least I can still squeeze the kids into back seats while they are little.

Not really sure what the question is...

You get the Vette, wifey gets a grocery getter SUV. Problem solved.

You're soliciting opinions between Corvette and other cars on a Corvette forum.. the results are predictable. Corvette is NOT a family friendly car unless you can afford it as an extra. Take a look at the Pontiac GTO... a somewhat heavier car, but it has a back seat, the same motor as C6 and by all reports an extremely nice interior.

Good luck!

Well yes, I've got four and I don't see this as a family outing car. It's for my wife and I. The kids ride with us in the Suburban.

Vet or Stang... your choice.

wife drives a Passat, I'm buying a Vette. I guess if you have kids you need two cars (we do). If you do not have 2 cars and have kids, I think the question is moot

The alternative would be to add a third car. I don't currently have a third, beater car, but I really enjoyed having one before. It was nice not having to take the nice car to the mall, to the grocery, to where the gravel trucks drive, etc.

Getting a third car might be the only way the Vette makes sense for us.

My wife has a Durango for hauling the 3 kids and the dog.

I have a Suburban for hauling the wife, 3 kids, the dog and a horse trailer.

I have the Corvette for hauling-***.

That being said....a Corvette is not a "family car." It can, however, be a great family 'starter' if you take my meaning. Since you already have that covered....bottom line is you won't be able to take the whole family in a Corvette. Sad but true

Small children fit just fine in the trunk. Mid america makes a special "child sled" that kids can be strapped into and they are very comfortable. Also can have an AC vent routed into rear compartment to help make them comfortable.

I put a trailer hitch on mine as well to handle a U-haul for long trips as with the kids lying flat in the back there's no room for luggage. Put a spare tire in the U-haul and take run flats off for winter snows....

I think this is the perfect family car.

I would take a Mustang GT in addition to the C6 but not as an alternative.

Most people with Corvettes have more than one car anyway regardless of their marital status. I prefer 2 seats less mess to clean up in corvette and a very easy car to clean interior & body.
Some Corvettes aren't used as daily drivers even though it can be a daily driver.
I use a 88 5.0 Mustang GT as DD with $208,000+ miles on motor and it is in pristine condition runs strong and has proven to be a very durable car.

ahgu -

I know how you feel.

For years I would buy Corvettes and then trade them in on 4-seat Mustang GTs, Cobras, Trans Ams, Z28s, etc...

WHY?

Because I hated going out as a family in the FAMILY TRUCKSTER.

BUT...

Now that my daughter is 14 (and getting taller) and my son is 11 (and catching her quickly) I don't feel right shoving them into the back of a cramped 4 seat sports car.
In fact, now I have a 2 seat Vette and a 2 seat 350Z (I just traded my 03 Cobra for it).

I would say, while the kids are young (12 and under) get a Mustang GT convertible, Cobra, or Shelby GT500 as your sports car for the family & yourself to have fun in, but...

Once the kids are 12+, get YOURSELF a C6!

If you do it right, you can have the Mustang paid off in 3 years and keep both!

Keep them both.
GT-500 looks nice but very heavy. Another one that looks good and is coming out is the Challenger with 6.1 motor on that Mercedes chassis like Charger. But Dodge Charger to me is like the GTO of late which is being discontinued which is of no surprise.

I think for the $$$ a NEW 2006 Mustang GT coupe can be had for $27000 or less.

Not bad if you want a 4 seater fun car until you buy the Vette.

I drove one, it was nice, I ended up buying a 350Z for the same price as I have had like 18 Mustangs and wanted something different this time.

Please understand, in no way is the Mustang GT in the same league as the C6, but it is still a nice car that the WHOLE family can enjoy at the same time.

On the other hand, if you are going to drive the Vette OFTEN to work or to take 1 kid at a time to basketball practice, or to go out with the wife...

If you are going to get to use the Vette OFTEN, then going out in the family truckster will be worth getting the Vette.

Married with children should dictate that Corvette is second car.

Get a 3rd car, what I did. The insurance on 3 is slightly more than insuring 2 cars, i.e. the vette becomes a pleasure vehicle

You get the Vette, wife gets a mini van. Kids take turns. Works for us.
