Default Does anyone shift 1st-3rd-5th??

I disconnested the CAGS (thanks for dodging the gas guzzler tax! But what a peice of sh-- to have on a drivable car!) I have tried out shifting, mostly in town where the traffic allows it, from 1st to 3rd then to 5th gear. I rev high enough so that it will shift smoothly and let the RPMs drop slightly so there is not a drag. Anyone else doing this and are there any downsides to this? Seems like a better idea than 1st to 4th!!I have a Z51 transmission so the gearing in the first 3 gears is lower as well.
Thanks in advance for your comments!

Frequently, the LS2 has so much torque that 1-3-5 is easy and probably saves some fuel and wear and tear. But then again that's the beauty of the M6 (as long as you have a CAGS By-Pass). You can pick most any gear and go. I don't want or need a computer getting in the way.

Sometimes 1-3-5, sometimes 2-4-6. Z51 also.

I am more worried about the motor transfering enough oil throughout the motor at lower RPMs doing my shifting method. I never let it get below 1000 rpm. Am I worrying about nothing??

Any more comments?

I dont see any problems with the cags or a need for the eliminator. If I want to shift from 1 to 2 instead of 1 to four just put your foot down more than 1/4 or so of the way, not a big deal.

Although the torque is certainly available to do so.....I am not a skip-shifter by choice. Even though I'm rarely if ever affected by the 1st to 4th skip-shift, I will soon be installing the GAGS defeat. I also appreciate not having to pay a gas-guzzler tax but otherwise, GAGS can be quite annoying.

FWIW, I shifted 1, 3, 5 in my C5 all the time and never had a problem with it. Seemed like a great way to save a bit of gas and have a bit more torque at my disposal than CAGS allowed.

1st to 3rd is my standard shifting pattern when just loping around town.

CAGS is not usually an issue however.

Short shifting and skipping gears, IMHO, detracts from the overall pleasure of driving a high performance sports car. Why bother? If I couldn't afford the gas, I would have selected a Prius. Just drive it! Leave the economy runs for the EPA.

It's a neat idea, experimentation is good, altho I like to feel all my gears, especially 1-4.

When I'm not in a hurry I skip gears all the time. I've also found that if I shift very slowly (maybe moving through the gate helps) the CAGS seems to time out and I can shift into second at low RPM's. Anyone else notice this?

Yep, that is what happens.
What 1 second and your standard 1 to 4 becomes 1 to 2nd.

Usually shift through all gears...also have listened to all the "must have CAGS eliminator" arguments...CAGS has never been a problem for me, just rev it up a little and goes directly into 2nd every time.
