Default Vibrating Gear Shift

I have a 2006 Coupe with 6 Spd Man. 7000 miles. The gear shift has begun to vibrate under acceleration. Sounds like a rapid pace woodpecker. Very annoying. I know it's the shifter because I can apply a little side pressure to the lever and the vibration stops.

I'm looking to see if anyone else has had this problem before I go to the dealer.

Thanks.

I had the same problem in 3rd gear accelerating fast. Dealer said it was normal when the RPM's were high. Only in 3rd gear, I never had the vibration in other gears. I just got used to putting my hand on the shifter when I accelerate in 3rd gear then shift to 4th. I do agree--- it shouldn't happen.

I agree. Mine is fun and good looking. It's a fun good looking piece of junk.

I hope this and other problems I have can be fixed so it remains fun.

Glad to see this question as we noticed the same thing from ours a couple of weeks ago, with about 3200 miles on the car. I've noticed it in 1st and 2nd around 4K RPM or so. Can't tell higher than that because otherwise I would be breaking the law on the street. :o By the way, it doesn't really bother me as usually just my hand resting is enough to stop the vibration.

And by the way SMJBA, you had me laughing about your typo.

Yea a little pressure on the shifter keeps it quiet but today in vibrated at a constant speed in fourth gear. It is not a good idea to keep constant pressure on the gear lever. It will damage the transmission.

It will have to go to the dealer where they will have to try to fix:

Gear Lever Rattle

Bad Differential, second time

Delaminating Windshield

Delaminating Roof

Knocking Sound each time car is moved forward (may be bad dif issue)

I can live with brake squeal, brake dust and dust in the clearcoat as they are minor issues.

Yep, I've noticed on mine that if I apply a little pressure to the **** it seems to go away. I'm not applying side to side or front to back pressure, I'm simply squeezing the ****. I was going to take it to the dealer, but everything else I have complained about they say is either normal or they can't get it to do the same thing. I don't think the Chevy dealers understand the concept of Customer Service. OK, sorry for the rant.

I am going to try to remove the **** and see if there is anything that I can add to dampen it.

You are not ranting. You are asking for what you paid for.

My wife hears a rattle from my automatic shifter that stops when you put your hand on it. Just figured it out, off to the dealer.

The shifter rattle is my #1 complaint with the car, sure would be nice if they released a fix. I've had mine to the dealer, all the way up to the regional rep, who sat in the car and listened to the rattle, nothing to add, blah, blah, blah. Officially on record with GM as dissatisfied.

Despite this, I look forward to driving the car every day, makes me want to get up in the morning.

I've been there, the fit between the **** and shift rod is super-tight, tough to get anything between 'em. Though, I didn't try (for example) injecting foam or similar. Please let us know if you have any luck.

Perhaps they can convert it to an auto?

Apparently a solution has been found, but Chevy is keeping it from being published in a TSB as yet:
