We are going to order a new 07 coupe and wonder about the On-star option? What value is it from a theft point of view? If the car is key less anyway is there any added protection. What good would the unlocking feature be if I loose the remote fob? Any other advantages my stealer seems pretty ignorant about it.

From theft point of view:
Its recovery potential can easily be defeated if the antenna is removed and that's quite simple since it is located on inside top of windshield. Maybe a dopey joyrider wont know to break it off but a "professional" thief will have no worries about on-star. If you lose the fob, having an unlocked car wont get you going anywhere.
Supposedly, you can't lock a fob in the car, but several here have done that. It's pretty easy to lock your fob in the car if you toss it into the rear hatch area through the rear hatch entrance. One place in the owner's manual, it's worded like the car will lock with a fob inside if at least one fob has been removed from the car.
OnStar can/will summon help if/when the air bags deploy and you are unable to call for help in case of an accident.
Glad to hear that. Hope it stays an option so when I order my new one in a couple of years I don't have to get it. Sure wish I didn't have it in the car I have.
An extremely professional car thief will not be deterred by OnStar nor by the 'keyless' FOB. Some thiefs carry laptops with custom software that can open and start just about any car in minutes (as was recently demonstrated to the Texas Instruments Engineers that created the so-called theft-proof 'computerized' key).
If the car is stolen and OnStar is active....they can most often get a general location of the car which may help recover the vehicle.
IMHO, one of the best features with OnStar is the built-in, hands-free telephone calling. If you have a manual transmission, I find this invaluable. The OnStar phone is many times more powerful than the typical cell phone as well.
Aside from the phone - whose minutes are outrageously expensive - I find OnStar to be useless.
It's a hostage "option" meaning it's listed as an option but that option can't be declined. I'd have happily traded On-Star for a $700 credit. I have no intention of extending the service after the "complimentary" 1st year expires.
