Just joined and got a lot to talk about, but first Hello to everyone!
Drove my new c6 coupe monteray red vette home about a month ago. Second day right rear tire went flat of course I was able to drive it to the dealer. Two days later got the car back because the tire was defective and had to wait for another. OK I can deal with that. Next week my "Service active handling light came on. Called the dealer and then brought it in. They couldnt find anything. Got the car back the next day. Two days later light came on again. Pulled over to the side called onstar they gave the code to dealer. Dealer said no probelm to drive the car like that. The next day the brake pedal shuttered really fast and car fishtailed to the right with my son in it also. He was very scared. Brought the car to the dealer and they said there was a bulletin sent out on that very code a while ago about a coupling in the steering column. Ok so they fix that.
My biggest problem when I dropped the car off I just had it detailed i was perfect. When I picked the car up it was filthy. they left it out and the dirt from the construction next door made it and eyesore. I washed it on the way home. I then noticed some milky white dots all over the car. After a few rounds with the dealer they said it was 'Envirmental Fallout" What!!! Rail dust, acid rain. Then I found out that corvettes are not shipped in trains only trucks so its the latter. Well now they want me to get a process called Permafinish. www.permafinish.com
Its my only chance or is it? I dont want to repaint the car but they are willing to do that also.
Any thoughts on this matter would really be apprciated!
My appointment is Monday
Thanks for listening

Wow! Sorry to hear your tales of woe. I wish I could offer anything more than condolences. Hope you get it restored to perfect condition soon andwithout too much more aggravation.
Mine is at the dealer getting a new transmission after only 3.5 months and 3150 miles. I'll be gone for the next 2 weeks so I shudder to think what my car is going to look like after being left out in the hot So. Florida sun and rain all that time.
It sounds to me like the "environmental fallout" was fairly localized to the dealership-someone was careless and splattered who knows what on the finish while it was in for service.I would consult a reputable paint shop and see if they can determine the extent of damage and what would be required to remove the spots before letting the dealership go at it.Have you been able get under any of them gently with a fingernail? The cars are shipped with adhesive protective sheets on the body panels and sometimes the dealerships won't get all the plastic off. What appears to be a blemish is remnants of that film left behind. It would be wonderful if it was something as simple as that.
I'm not familiar with "Permafinish", but it sounds like a polymer somewhat like Rejex, which I use. If it is, I doubt if it is the right product to use to remove the "environmental spots" on your car. I agree with BlackMark (above). I'd get a professional opinion on the spots so you'll know how to proceed. IMHO, re-painting the car would be a very poor solution.
If the permafinish or paint job is free then let them do it.
Permafinish is one of those detailing jobs that dealerships sell to their customers when they buy a car. They cost between 300-400 dollars depending on the car manufacturer. It is just a nice detailing job with a 15 dollar bottle product.

Welcome to the forum and I'm sorry for your troubles. Any car (even new ones) can have problems and this doesn't help from your perspective but I think your experience is the exception rather than the rule.
I would be hesitant to go with any 'coating' on a factory new finish. Do take the car to a reputable paint and body shop to see what they say (find a shop that deals specifically in high-end vehicles).
Welcome again and I hope you get things back on track soon.
Welcome to the forum. Sorry about all the problems with your car. I hope it gets better!!
There are lots of good folks here and a ton of information available. Make sure you continue to let us know what is going on and possibly some of the more knowledgeable can provide some valuable insight. Best of luck.
Call Gm. Get a case Number. Talk to the Owner of the dealership. The dealer is giving a lot of Bull. All those paint coating are a rip off Read your owners manual. Retired Gm rep 42 years.
I pick up my 07 C6 Monday and my dealer is trying to sell me on XZILON Environmental Protection Package for $750.00. I've done a much reading as I can find on the product and it still comes up Snake Oil to me.
Best way to deal with tire problems is to go to a Goodyear Store qualified to deal with run flats. Dealers will not honor the road hazard warranty but hte Goodyear folks will.
