What is GMID and GMS exactly? I understand it is some kind of discount, but how do I get it? I am buying my 2007 next week sometime and it would be nice to get a little discount.

GMS is employee pricing. It is only available to GM employees and their eligible family members. GMID is GM In the Driveway pricing (and also the same pricing for GM suppliers). GMID pricing certificates can be obtained by GM employees for anyone they desire. GM Supplier pricing is available to employees of companies that are suppliers to GM.

I've never done GMS for a family or friend but I'm pretty sure it's for friends too. I've only used it for me so far.

The hardest part is finding someone that not only has GMS but either hasn't used GMS in the last 6 months or doesn't have plans to use it in the next 6 months.

You can only use GMS once every 6 months.

GMS eligibility:

Eligible employees and retired employees are able to sponsor their spouses, children, grandchildren, parents, stepparents,
grandparents (including in-law and step), siblings (including full, half and step), stepchildren, stepgrandchildren, mother-/father-in-law, sons-/daughters-in-law and brothers-/sisters-in-law. Same-sex domestic partners of eligible participants also qualify, where applicable.
GM Supplier eligibility (Supplier Vehicle Purchase Program):

Employees under the SVPP are not eligible to sponsor any purchasers.
GM had a special promotion going until the end of May that did allow GM Supplier employees to give certificates to family/friends, but that is not the normal rules.

I happen to qualify for both GMS (my dad retired from Chevrolet) and GM Supplier (I work for a GM supplier).

Call Rick Daniel from Les Stanford Chevrolet. He got me a 2007 with the GMID discount. So it is real. It saved me $5,500. He also courtesy delivered it to Tucson for me. I will hopefully have it within the next couple of days, depending how fast FedEx can send the paperwork back and forth to Les Stanford. It was too easy. Also there is a guy called Richard Ott who will get you the GMID certificate. He and his buddies from GM do this to help people. His email and name are all over this forum and the Chevy Avalanche Forum. It will be worth your time. Good luck.

But I already ordered my 2007 Corvette from a local dealer. Do you think I can still get the GMID Certificate from Rich Ott.

Most likely you can get a GMID certificate but it is up to your dealer to choose if he will accept it. Many dealers do not.

If GMID is only a few grand, tell him to drop the price for you with out it if he doesn't give GMID. If he says no go some where else. Some people will do all they can for your business, some will rol the dice and see if you stick with them regardless.

I prefer the walk.

Rick Daniel's website offers $3,500 off any 2007 coupe. Around $5,500 with GMID. If your dealer doesn't get close to these amounts, get your refundable deposit back and call Rick. The reason I went out of state to get a 2007 was because our dealers in Tucson will only do MSRP.

Especially smaller dealers. Mine does not. He did offer me $3K off of MSRP on an 07 that I ordered from him, but that order has been canceled since I bought an on-the-lot 06 from him at $7K off of MSRP.

I got my GMID number from Richard. He sent it to me July 1st. They only get 2 per month and according to another post he is now out. You can still order without it, you'll just need to get it before you finalize the paper work.

So true! When the C6 first hit the Tucson dealership floor, they would not even let it out for a test drive (at least not without checking your Dunn & Bradstreet rating first). They wouldn't budge on the price (why sell a scarce commodity for less when the next guy will pay full boat).

I then contacted a local car broker who usually gets me great discounts on most car models....usually obtained from dealers out of the area simply looking to move a unit and keep their allotment up. To my surprise (and I imagine to their gain), he ended up ordering my C6 through the commercial/fleet division of the same local dealership where I first went. On an all cash deal I only saved about $1,200.00.

I think now that the C6 has been around a while, you're much more likely to find dealers willing to discount.

GMID on a Coupe is $4K and $5K on a Vert off the base plus 15% off on the options.

When GMS or GMID is used, does GM just discount the vehicle to the dealer or is the dealer participating in the discount? Since some dealers refuse to participate, I am assuming that the dealer must have significant participation and that the dealer does not have much further margin to discount.

What about adopting a member for GMS? I'm very well behaved, handy around the house, and I don't eat beef jerky...much...

The dealer still gets paid, he just is taking a reduced margin. The salesman is the one that usually takes the biggest reduction. If a dealer only has a few allocations they are less likely to honor the program because they have nothing to lose by waiting for the next guy they can charge full price to or at least $5K-6K more. Dealers that sell high volume can make up some of the lost margin by hitting certain volume threshold targets and get additional money back at the end of the year as a bonus.

I'm pretty sure it's just for family, since those are the only options for relationship you can select when you generate a GMS number...but the GMS once every six months is not true. Me, my mom, and my stepdad have all gotten GMS pricing within the last two months. Two being corvettes, and those being within five days of each other. The numbers come from my grandfather, and he can get 6 vehicles per calendar year on GMS pricing.
