All depends how you like to drive...I'm sure each owner has their own opinion of when to shift.

Yea... there was a thread about this a couple days ago... most people seemed to shift in the 1500-2000 range during normal "daily" driving, but the 6000-6500 range during drag racing...

The 2006 owner's manual on page 2-31 says these are the shift vehicle speeds for best fuel economy, but you didn't buy your C6 for that, did you?

This chart shows when to shift to the next higher gear for the best fuel economy with a manual tranny.

Shift Speeds in mph (km/h)

Acceleration Shift Speed
................1 to 2...2 to 3...3 to 4...4 to 5..5 to 6
All Engines 15 (24) 25 (40) 40 (64) 45 (72) 50 (80)

This was posted a while back as a somewhat theoretical guide to shiftpoints. Another chart I saw listed 51 mph as the 1st gear maximum shift point for the MN6. Not that I'd necessarily recommend you try pushing these shiftpoints but I think once you exceed max rpm's in any gear, your computer will shut it down anyway.

M6 is 56 84 116 150 203 at 6,500
A6 is 50 85 131 174 236 at 6,500

http://www.eorsr.us/c6 click on the 'gear' icon for the combination you want, e.g. click the gear in the MN6 row, 3.42 column for the standard manual, or the MN6-Z51 row, 3.42 column for the Z51. The other columns are for different rear end ratios, for anyone who's thinking of swapping. I assumed noone would be swapping to a higher ratio!

I can guarantee you, if you don't by the CAGS eliminator, and you try and shift from 1st to 2nd at 15 MPH, you will be put in 4th gear because of the Skip-Shift - you will never get it directly into 2nd gear without having to do something first, such as go to 3rd or stay in neutral for a quick second and then drop into 2nd. It is a huge annoyance which is why most people are in higher RPMs when they shift into 2nd.

If you are at greater than 21% throttle, you will not get the 1-to-4 light (at any speed).

To be honest, I've never looked at the RPM's. I go by feel and sound.

The manual shift points are too low ( in my opinion).
