I am hoping somebody out there might be able to help me with a problem. I purchased my C6 vert back in October and have loved every minute of it. I am a firm believer that if I was going to get a convertible I was going to have the top down anytime the sun was out. Which means no AC even when it is 90+ outside. Lately I have noticed the cockpit and cabin getting very hot, and it isn't just from the weather we have been having lately. It is getting to the point where I can barely be in the car for more than 10 minutes. Has anybody else experienced this problem? This is with the top down, AC off, under normal city driving.
Corvettes are always known for giving off a lot of heat in the cabin. Alot of the heat comes from the transmission and engine, you can purchase heat resistent material I believe one of the forum members posted pics about it a few weeks ago.

So, why do you turn the AC off just because you put the top down? I drive my '06 Vert with the top down about 95% of the time, but leave the AC on. A little cool air is a good thing when the ambient air temp is 98F, or so.
The exhaust pipes run directly under the center of the car so a lot of heat is transmitted to the cabin. There is a 1/8 th inch tunnel plate between the exhaust pipes and the cabin.
There is another thread right now which deals with the same issue. It's called "C6 Tunnel heat".
I installed the product below. Works pretty well and no need to remove the exhaust. The surface area of the tunnel plate is only about 3 or 3.5 square feet.

As the members have noted....the C6 gets hot....you've got the exhaust pipes & torque tube running less that 10 inches from your legs & feet....and that 400HP throws a lot of heat. Partial solution is the ceramic coated chassis plate from Elite Engineering. Not perfect (not sure naything is) but probably cuts down convection heating by 40/50%. If you really want to go to extremes, one or more of the Forum vendors sells insulation blanket kits that go under the cockpit carpeting, but that's a major project to remove seats, console, carpet, etc, etc. What I do is to run the vent fan on the "feet" setting (no A/C), to get air circulating round the footwells. Again, not perfect, but I find it helps on very hot days.
These new C-6 Corvettes are not that hot what is real hot are those 68-72 big block Corvettes it just comes right from the motor to the engine compartment so you either turn on the air cond. night included, or remove the top.
These cars are produced with very light body pannels that allow heat to come into the drivers compartment...Hit the ac button its your real answer when you need to cool down... The viper I had before this was a killer....You could see the heat vapour coming off the hood of the car on hot summer days and the ac came out of a model T ford.....

We had a 1967 327/300 that got so hot in the cockpit, driving across the desert, that the soles of my shoes started to melt into the carpet. Every time i lifted a foot it was like ripping Velcro loose.
With the windows closed/AC on, our C6 Coupe is OK. But with the windows open, the heat seems to flow out of the console area in much greater amounts. That's when we use the A/C.

I've got the coupe and I frequently run with the top off (voluntarily). I've never noticed what I thought was excessive interior heat generated by the engine or pipes. I do live in Tucson, Arizona so maybe I'm just used to cooking all the time? When it's so hot I only run with the top off in the early morning hours or after sunset.
I'm doing extensive mods soon including LG Pro long tube headers. As a precaution (since the cats will be moved back) I plan on installing the Elite tunnel plate. I'd rather do it then rather than discovering I should have installed the tunnel plate after the work is done.
If I am sitting in traffic on a hot day w/o AC on and top down, yes it does get warm. For this situation, I turn on the AC. Other than that the car with the top down is just fine.
