I was watching Leno a couple of weeks ago or so and he was interviewing a young skateboarding champion guy whose name I can't remember. Jay was complimenting him on his recent fame and fortune etc. The guy says "ya I just bought myself a house and I am looking at cars and went into the Beverly Hills Ferrari dealership to check them out". Then he says Jay, you're a car guy what do you think? Without any hesitation Jay says "buy a corvette!!" I thought it was great that he was telling him to forget the Ferrari and buy something great like a Corvette!
Hell yea.....I'm glad he told the kid that...know the kid won't be another smuck in hollywood w/a Ferrari b/c it's the "it" car. Instead the kid will have a faster car.
0n Speedvision , a few weeks ago ..tv show "payback" an episode ran regarding Jay buying a C6 Convertable & , As a thank you gift for a comedy club owner who many years ago gave Jay his first stint in Califorina......... Jay had nothing but great comments regarding the Corvette.......... The Dog
I have "Viper: Legend in its own lifetime" DVD. Anyhow, back when the Viper GTS came out, Jay was interviewed at the Viper plant (i think he was touring the plant) and he said something (i'm paraphrasing here) that he's not into Vette. Thought Vette had too much technology, who needs traction control, ABS, etc. Basically, he simply said (at the time) that he wasn't a Vette guy. Obviously that has changed. Just thought i would pass this along.
I have been to Jays Garage many times, with and without Jay.
Commenting on earlier posts.....
I think Jay DOES have one of everything as long as it has 2 or 3 or 4 wheels or more and was built within the last 100 years.
He has at least 3 Vettes in the garage, some stock, some not. He DOES like Vettes, but also likes everything else he drives. And he drives something different almost every day.
He is a fun, knowlegeable and GREAT guy. A Car Guy...
I know some comics who THINK they are mechanics.......
I know some mechanics who are comics!
Some of Leno's comments concerning keyless entry and OnStar may have been for comedic effect but I certainly respect Leno when it comes to cars. Although he keeps 'mechanics' on payroll for his stable of vehicles....he knows his s**t and isn't afraid to roll-up his sleeves and get dirty. He has a fabulous collection!
I have got to learn more about the keyless thing. I always wondered if I was near the car if someone could just hop in and drive it away.
Can't start the car without the fob in the car. During the musuem delivery the delivery person had the fob in his pocket and I couldn't even turn on the accessory function.

He (and his crew in his garage) built 55 Roadmaster they showed at SEMA a couple of years ago. It was immaculate, looked stock at 25 feet and was sitting at the GM display. I walked right by it and thought "cool old car."
I looked a little closer and discovered they had custom made 20"wheels built to look like the original hubcaps, a humongous big block crate motor and redone the chassis with C4 and C5 suspension bits. It is amazing.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
