I have a 2-month old 2007 so I don't think I need an update yet. However; was I dreaming or did I hear that GM was now going to provide us with annual updates? Please say it is so!
I have a 2005 Vette, and I received an update about 3 months after receiving delivery of the car in 2005. A call to gm nav's nice lady, advised me that another update would have to purchased, for $199.00.
In response to two questions, she gave me new information:
One, the updated nav DVDs only update the mapping data, the original navigation program has never been revised, and there is no plan to update it, at this time.
Two, on using a telephone number as the destination to which I wish to be routed, the system only recognizes telephone numbers at businesses and public places. It does not recognize phone numbers at residences. I have used this phone number in-put as the desired destination, and it works amazingly well. I give the nav system an A plus. joeearl

Check the DVD to see if it says 3.0 The part # on the CD case is 15932106. Version 2.0 part # is 15779679.
your post is not really accurate. you cannot register without the control number which you can only obtain from the post card GM mails after your one year anniversary.

So there is no way for me to get the 3.0 DVD except to wait for the one-year anniversery of my delivery date?
I've got an '05. I just purchased ($200) and installed the new nav update. I also have a Garmin Streetpilot for my wife's car and paid $75 for its update. The Garmin updates have several new Hiways in my area that don't show up on my updated Vette nav. Well, so much to "You Get What You Pay For".

Yes, you can get an update prior to your one year anniversary. If you call them, they will advance you a copy, but it does count as one of your two free updates if you have a 2006 or later.
I did order and receive the update from Version 2.00 to 3.00, GM Part Number 15932106. While the 2.00 version did not have my street on it, 3.00 did, so the maps are clearly more up-to-date.
This DVD is dual layer and does have some sort of copy protection on it. If you need to make your own personal backup (and not distribute, sell or otherwise make illegal duplicates), there is special software out there that will copy and create an exact back-up onto a dual layer blank media. You, of course, will need a dual layer burner.
At a cost of $200 to purchase/replace the DVD from GM, it is wise to create and use the backup copy in the NAV unit and store the original in a safe, cool location.

The personal backup I made using that special software and my dual layer burner doesn't work. The original disk must have some kind of code marker that isn't copyable.

Not wanting to sound argumentative, my back-up works perfectly in my 06. I suspect you maybe using a different "special software" than I am. But as a reference, I'm using Memorex DVD+R DL 2.4X blank media recorded on a LITE-ON DVDRW SHW160P6S burner.
One has to wonder if part of the price increase from the 05 to 06 included the cost of the "2 free updates"?? With GM there is never a "free lunch" the 2 free updates have to cost something and I doubt GM is giving them away for free.
So do any of you 3.0 folks wanna part with your old 2.0 disc for us 1.0 05 guys that were left out hangin' in the wind by GM?
Well, since you asked. I guess I should be getting notices from them for 3.0 DVDs on both Vettes. I have no use for old disks once the new one comes in, so, if you still want the 2.0 disk, send me a pm in couple of weeks to see if I got the new one in. One is yours.
Is there ANYone who has found any info on the NAV issue OR how the **** we can access the Codes in the DIC? We paid for the car, why can't we look at anything??
