I can see why it could be a safety issue, but why can't they install a system that stops the window from rolling up if it senses some obstruction (like an elevator door, that will re open if there is something on it's way when closing).
Plus I'm still pretty close to the window when I press the button, so I could see if something got there, it's not like a remotely close the window (BTW is that an issue for the Window Valet?)
My friend's Totyota Avensis has auto up and down and I believe I see more cars that have it than cars that don't.
I don't believe it's a safety issue! My Audi, Infiniti and Toyota all have the feature. It is was a safety issue for GM why do Caddy's have it? Perhaps it had something to do with the window index feature on the our vettes? More then likely it was just that GM was CHEAP!!!!!
I have posted the same question, within the past two weeks (I believe) on a Tahoe forum.
Basically, my rant there was that in the '01 Tahoe I drove, the Express-Open feature only worked for the drivers' window and the sunroof. Closing ANY window required holding the button. Now, in a vastly improved 2007 model, the Express-Open feature works on (shudder!) both front windows (still NOT on the rear), as well as the sunroof. In a stroke of genius, someone figured out how to allow the Express-Close feature to work on the sunroof, BUT STILL NOT THE WINDOWS.
As far back as I can remember, all my previous BMWs (going back to the mid-late 90s), as well as my wife's '03 Infinity have Express-Everything, with built-in sensors that detect pressure on a closing window, at which point it is immediately re-opened.
The '07 Tahoe is a big-a$$ truck, which now ALSO has an auto rear hatch feature (open AND close), and flip & fold second row captain's chairs (which I swear, would decapitate the family dog my kids so desperately want), so I HIGHLY doubt it is a safety concern.
Can somebody tell why we don't have an auto up feature?
Auto down is there, why not auto up?
My Honda has only auto down too... I have never understood why manufacturers don't alway put auto up.... there must be some kind of explanation, besides saving a few $
All C6 Corvettes have Express Close power windows. It's just that it only works for the last 1/2 inch of travel.

You want to hear something funny? A friend of mine back in highschool was pulling into a parking spot (Wendy's I think) and had his head out the window checking to see when to stop short of the parking barrier. Well he was cranking, yes I said cranking up his window and closed it on his head. True story. I still laugh when I think about it. If I hadn't been there to witness it, I wouldn't have believed it.
All the cars that I've had over the last several years that had auto up windows ALSO had a sensor to prevent them from closing over an obstruction. So, these mfgs must have had enough faith in their sensors to ward off the likes of the ambulance chasing attorneys!
We have it on my wife's Infiniti M and I wish we had it on the Vette. I know that there are liability concerns, but the Infiniti has safety features on the up cycle and I doubt it is an issue.
Has anyone considered buying a window switch out of a Cadillac XLR and seeing if it will plug into a C6 vette? Just a thought as they are very similar and GM seems like they would use the same harnesses, just change up the circuit board a little.
that 3 seconds of switch holding is a killer isn't it?
Since most people on this forum have been around this planet much longer than myself, how did you all manage to manually roll up/down windows with that ridiculous crank thing?
Huh? C'mon. Maybe not available on all cars and models, but power windows have been around more than 50 years. I even think our maroon '47 Studebaker had them; definitely our green '49 Olds did.
