Default Accessories - The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

I have purchased quite a few accessories from for my 2007 C6. All were internet purchases and I experienced no problems. I like some accessories more than others so I decided share my likes and dislikes with fellow forum members who might be considering buying some of these item.

Purchases from the National Corvette Museum (As a Senior Member, I receive a 15% discount)

Set of Lloyds Ebony Mats with C6 logo.

They are of excellent quality, the ebony matches the C6's ebony and cashmere interior and they fit perfectly. They are worth the price and I would highly recommend them.

"Travel Buddy" Double Drink Holder

It was very easy to install. The cashmere color matches the C6's cashmere interior and it is very functional. I would highly recommend this item.

C6 Corvette Exhaust Enhancement Plate

It really looks great but, if you have large hands, installation can be difficult. I would recommend using a half inch ratchet wrench (mine is a Craftsman) for installation. The end results, however, are worth the effort.

Mirror Seals - to protect the mirrors when washing the car

They are not a perfect fit and I am concerned that I might damage the mirrors if my hand should slip because of the amount of pressure required to put them on. I recommend using plastic bags with rubber bands to secure the bags.

C6 Corvette Chrome License Plate Frame

I like chrome and I like the looks of the chrome frame very much but I had to trim the corners of the license plate to make it fit in the frame and the chrome (plastic) buttons provided are too small to fit over the heads of C6's license plate screws. I plan to get screws with smaller heads.

C6 Clean Fascia Front License plate Mount

Texas state law requires a front license plate. I doubt very much that this front license plate mount will pass muster but I decided to give it a try anyway. You have to get down on your hands and knees and look under the car to see the license plate. Hopefully, I won't get stopped but, if I do, I'll let y'all know what happened.

Purchases from C5Creations.com

Front Bumper Mask

This Front Bumper Mask was recommended buy a NCM staff member. It was an excellent recommendation. Installation does not require any holes to be drilled and it took only about a half hour to install. It comes off and goes back on in about a minute. It does a great job of protecting the radiator and front end. With the Mask on, the water temperature increases between 5 to 10 degrees when the outside temperature is over 100 degrees. It can be washed and dries quickly. It fits in a small nylon sack abut the size of a sandwich sack when not in use.

It looks a lot nicer when you see it on the car than it does in the attached photo. It may not offer the protection from large rocks that vinyl and leather bras do but it does better job of protecting the radiator. It is a lot nicer looking and is easier to install, put on, take off and clean.

Of all the accessories I purchased, I would rate the nylon Front Bumper Mask number one!

Mirror Covers - Nylon

They are very nice, easy to put on and take off. They can be washed and they dry quickly. The only negative would be that they do not completely cove the neck where the mirrors attach to the doors but I like them very much.

Car Cover Indoor Outdoor

This is an excellent car cover and comes with a storage bag. It easy to put on and takes up very little storage space. I recommend having the C6 Logo on the cover (provided at no extra cost). It makes finding the front of the cover easier when putting it on.

Purchased from Autosport.com

X-Pel Headlamp and Fog Lamp Protection Kit

The 3M plastic lens covers are great but I had problems installing them. I couldn't get all the bubbles out between the lenses and covers and they are still visible. I plan to buy another kit and have it installed professionally. Until then, I will leave the covers on because they do provide great protection.

Purchased from EliteEngineeringusa.com

Lifting/Jacking Pads

The red anodized aluminum jacking pads are almost too pretty to use. They were also reasonably priced.

There you have it for what it’s worth, my opinion on the accessories I purchased for my 2007 C6. I hope this information is helpful to y’all.

I am considering ordering a cashmere console cover and either a cargo organizer or a partition. I would appreciate recommendations from those of you have purchase these items.

Thanks for the good post, Jim. I have several of these same accessories and I can't argue with a thing you said.

The Elite Engineering stuff rules! I have both the jacking pucks as well as the dead/accel pedals. The quality on their stuff is amazing.

Here are some of mine:

- Leather console cover from MidAmerica which is fine - BUT - I would recommend a visit to Down South Vettes web site to see some really amazing leather. I just ordered seats and boots...

- Leather door pulls from MidAmerica. These are fine but pretty pricey IMO.

- Cargo divider from Exotic Vette and I'm really pleased with the product.

- 3rd brake light flasher from Web Electric Products

- Z-51 sway bars from Fred Beans (great price)

- VY fuel rail covers from Fred Beans. Some indicated they did not like the finish on these but I think they are a nice match.

- Rear light seals from Southern Car Parts. These look nice, fit well and do what they claim (keep the water out).

- Honker Intake and Double D exhaust from Callaway. Nice products. Great service from Corvettes of Houston.

- Solar Shade for the poly roof. Dont bother. It works but is a pain to install and looks a bit cheap. Instead of this go to the Down South Vettes site and get the really nice shade they offer...

Thanks for the feedback. It's good have recommendations and testimonials about products before you buy them.

I never would have bought the C5Creations Front Bumper Mask had It not been recommended to me by a NCM staff member. He was right on. I won't go anywhere without it.

I remembered a few more...

- Removable front license frame from Top Flight. Very, very well engineered product.

- Cleartastic side protection from Mid America. I generally like it but not nearly as much as the VentureShield bra on the front.

- DIY front and side grills with instructions courtesy of Pipedreams.

- DIY painted hood liner. Incredible instructions on the forum.

- Splashguards. Various vendors sell them for $30-40. I've heard those from Pipedreams are the best.

- Lloyds floor and cargo mats. Very nice products

- Duplicolor self-painted calipers. Great product - but - buy it from your local Walmart or auto parts store ($15). You will pay $29 online + shipping...

I spray on Duplicolor Shield to protect the side panels on trips. It works great! It doesn't come off in rain but it comes of easily with a microfiber towel and water. It works great. You can get it at Pep Boys and Auto Zone.

My plate has been mounted behind the grill area on both C6's. I've traveled all over the state of TX with no problem at all from the police. The law simply states that the front plate be mounted. Nothing about height above the road surface nor how visable it must be. Now the back plate, that is a differant story.

Jim,
I just received the GM cargo organizer and I love it!! It is an extremely well built piece, very sturdy. The fit is perfect and it is a great place to put any little packages or whatever that you want to keep close at hand. I highly, highly recommend it.

I have a cashmere console from Down South Vettes, a cargo partition from Exotic Vette, and a V1 visor mount from Great Lakes with an Invisicord, all of which I highly recommend.

If I can get the wife to reveal the location of the camera, I'll post some pictures. She hid the darn camera so the grand kids wouldn't play with it and now she can't remember where she put it.

Thanks, John,
Does it require and holes being drilled?

Is it the "Clean Fascia" front plate mount that I have on mine?

Easy to install, no holes, but you do need to cut four slits in the carpeting if you follow the GM directions. Fits like a glove and is superior to other options IMHO.

Yeah, you can get the "clean fascia" plate mount at the Museum Store for $16 plus shipping. It's a clean install, but I'm a little nervous about its legality here in Texas. On the Museum site you'll see a disclaimer that it "may not be legal in all states". Also, the photo is a little misleading. It isn't real easy to see or read the plate unless you're laying down on the street!

Is the front mask a stretchy nylon material? How thick is it when on the car? Will it offer any protection from small pieces of gravel? I am considering a conventional bra vs. a clear bra and completely understand the advantages and disadvantages each offer, but this may be an attractive alternative. I assume it is quick to put on/off.

I was worried about the same thing and also about whether it impacted the cooling system as it seemed to be stretched across the front grill. I went with the clear bra...

It probably will not protect the paint against large stones, but it is effective againt small stones, sand and bugs. It also does something vinyl and leather bras don't. It keeps the radiator clear of all stones (big and small), sand and bugs.

The temperature during the day has been above 100 degrees for more than a month here in Central Texas. The engine temp. runs between 212 and 218 with no problems and I really like having a clean radiator.

Good luck with the clear bra. I heard it offers great protection.
