Default Problems? C5 or C6

I just finished selling my 67 and am considering either a C5 or C6 Auto. I wanted to hear pro's and cons on the C6 over the C5's and also wanted to hear of any problems people were experiencing with this latest generation. I have heard of some Paddle Shift Tranny issues, and some electrical. Currently I am considering a 2005 with 10,000 and an auto, or a C5 with 23,000 and auto.

Both will be A4's. The paddle shifting didn't come into play till 2006. Biggest difference is looks and the LS2.

I own both a C6 and a C5 and the C6 is without a doubt 10X's better.

I have owned both, 2 C5 coupes and a C6 coupe. C6 is a better car.

Really? 10 times faster, more comfortable, quicker,,,what?

Not knocking you, just don't see how it's really 10 times better than the older model. And no, I don't own a C5 but will be making the same decision as the original poster in the future and curious minds want to know.

How can i put this into words. If i drive the two back to back. The C6 just feels better to me then the C5. Don't get me wrong.. The C5 is an amazing machine but the C6 just feels better to me. The exterior, the interior, the LS2, the 6spd auto. It just makes the C6 a better package then the C5.

I hope I dont get my head chewed off by any C5 owners but coming from a G35 I loved the feel and control a import car had as far as how the steering wheel felt when driving. I test drove a C5 and in my opinion I could not get a feel for the road meaning the wheels felt like I was driving a giant tahoe and then I test drove the C6 and I was sold on buying it and I did. The steering was responsive and the power it produced and not to metion the Ferrari face just a beautiful machine! And to add the numbers dont lie comparision to the C5 to C6 stock to stock.

I absolutely love the C6, and want one badly, but it's not really any lighter than the C5. Both of them weigh around 3200lbs (plus or minus 50, depending on options) The extra torque and horsepower of the LS2 over the LS1 will make the car feel lighter though.

Given the choice between a C5 or a C6 I think most people would choose the C6 in a heartbeat. As good as the C5 is, the C6 is even better in every way.

The C5 roof never flew off the car - my C6 roof did.

Hopefully they fix it.

Let me be clear, I love my C6.

Default Whats is this Delamination Problem?

Just wondering,, I suppose it has to do with your roof flying off. Is this a problem with the lamination,, or a lack of testing at 135mph plus??LOL,, seriously though I am thinking the lamination problem is the glass top to the the top frame structure??

What about the Tranny problems for the A6

Yes, the frame was fine, the top came off the frame.

I have tested it at, ahem, high speed and it seemed fine. It did in fact come off at low speed.

Default Thanks

I found some other info on the issue in FAQs,, OK hopefully no one chews my head off ,,, But here is my opinion. If GM doesn't have enough respect for itself to keep its Flagship vehicle from having a bunch of embarassing problems,, one day we may be getting our Corvettes from a stand a lone Take over company that buys the Corvette trademark and continues production. I have owned some real CRAPPY vehicles from GM and I went out and bought a 2001 Suburban recently that seems to be pretty good, except for the Knocking steering column. Fellas we have a problem and GM brass must either be blinded by the beuracratic BS that goes with large Corporations or they plainly don't give a **** that there Jobs will no longer be there when the Foreign automakers take so much market share that its no longer profitable to stay in business,, I think this holds true for all three US automakers. Now I'm not saying that GM doesn't have some outstanding features, and some GREAT ideas, but when I read about people selling there C6's because of electrical gremlins, I have to ask why GM continues to think they can do business like this. Trim pieces falling off after a few hundred miles, All I'm saying is why, oh why Can't the U.S. build vehicles that aren't inhibited by annoying, crappy little problems. Lastly I have driven a 6 speed C6 Coupe and it was awesome,, Quiet, and drove great and I thought it was a great car,, but that was a 10 minute test drive. Kind a like a one nighter,, she was great, but could I live with her?? LOL,, I also think GM has the best engine fuel management on the planet. I don't think anyone else has figured out how to get as good of MPG. Kudos there. Lets deliver the full package though make the whole car that good.

I'm sorry guys,,, I just think GM should allow us customers to help them Tell there engineers when there products/idea's sunk like the Titanic. I mean a few hundred cars to some testers I think would allow them to fix this crap and save face with customers spending thousands.

o.k. I'm done,, I'm sorry if I offended anyone,, just my feelings after a host of stupid problems on a Aurora, 94 Chevy Pickup, 2001 Suburban, 1984 Blazer, 1975 Monte Carlo, 1984 Pickup C10, All I'm saying is,, this is the United States and We can kick Tail when we need to. Why do I keep buying them,, well,, MORE POWER ,, O.K. guys ,, open fire ,, I am done

Had both a C5 and C6 at the same time! The C6 is leagues above the C5. The C6 can offer more features (3LT package) in the car compared to the 1SB package in the C5. The 400HP LS2 accelerates much faster than the 350HP C5. The difference is cars should be no surprise as the C6 was developed to be better than the C5 it replaced..... test drive both and you will agree with everything others have posted about the C6 being better.

The clear glass tops aren't a problem, it's only the painted tops which are separating.

Before I bought my 2006, I also test drove a C5. Although I was die hard stick shift guy, because of having to drive thru heavy traffic areas, both were autos. The C5 and C6 are both great looking cars, and I think that is a very subjective area. However, the C6 seemed more solid, powerful, and handled much better. I am happy with the A6, .... not quite as much fun as a stick, but a good compromise if you need an automatic.

Correct. Painted tops are the issue.

Loved my C5, love my C6 more. Both, IMO, are great cars.
1. As already stated, C6 is faster.
2. Matter of opinion which looks better.
3. C6 rides better, squeaks and rattles much less, and does not leak.
4. C5 has more storage space, the big cubby hole in the center of the hatch is missed in my C6.
5. If you drive your C6 at night, you can actually see. Headlights are awesome!!! Of course, you can replace the bulbs in a C5.
My $.02
