Default Help With XM Module.

Thought about posting this over in the tech section, but felt that it would get more views over here.

I have the NAV unit in my car but without the XM radio.

Got my hands on an XM module at Carlisle this weekend.

For those who are curious, the harness connection for the coupe is behind the driver side rear speaker.

I removed the left rear window strut rod by removing the locking clip at the bottom of the strut with the twist of a flat head screwdriver. Once that clip is off you can just pull the strut off at the bottom. You will have to support the rear hatch because the one remaining right side strut is not strong enough to hold it up. I used a 2x4.

I then pulled the rear speaker enclosure out a little until it popped off the fastenr and pulled the carpeting out behind it heading towards the roof stowage brackets.

Once you do that you can see a small shelf at the wheel well area, looking towards the gas door area, straight across from the roof stowage bracket. The harness plug will be there as you head for the gas door area, and taped up. Pulled it out and plugged in the XM module.

There are 2 antenna connections on the module. Only one is needed. I had to alter the plastic on the XM module a tad to make my XM micro antenna connection fit.

Everythings great. Put the car in accessory mode and the selection for XM1/XM2 comes up on the head unit and the preview channels are playing.

Go to channel 0 and get the unit nbr and call XM and add it onto my existing account.

Started buttoning everything up. Put the wart on the dash behind my inspection sticker.

Went to fire the car up and got "XM LOCKED".

Apparently, while the head unit will recognize the module hooked into it, the XM module itself is locked????? The rest of the radio works fine.

Nearest I can figure is that module must have a theft deterrent feature of it's own, in addition to the car's head unit?????

Anyone encounter this problem before, and if so, what did you do??

Any other ideas or suggestions are welcome.

According to the shop manual (page 11-86), if the VIN set into the XM module doesn't match the VIN stored in the BCM, the theft deterrent feature will be activated and a DTC of B1001 will be set. Take the car to your dealer. Have them attach the Tech II, and go to the Special Functions menu. Configure the module to the vehicle. Turn off then back on, it should now work.

Note, there is a VIN counter in the module, if you exceed the maximum count (not specified in the shop manual), the module will be permanently disabled. So hope your module hasn't been transferred to another vehicle before you got it, and that the tech at the dealership doesn't screw up the configuration procedure. Otherwise, you will own a piece of electronic junk.

Thanks for the information.

I don't think it was transferred to another vehicle as the one it came from was being parted out. It had just over 6k miles on it before it was totaled.
