I was having the same dilemma, but came to the conclusion that I am personally not a "convertible guy". Meaning I found that it would be fairly rare that I would drop the top....and I live in California. I found that even when in my Dad's C5 vert or my Mom's SC430 vert, that on most occassions, it was either too cold or too hot for me to fully enjoy the vert. Of course there are going to be those "perfect days" but considering how many of those there would be, the extra cost of the vert, and the additional practicality of the targa coupe, I decided on the coupe. Good luck to you.
Again, thanks for all your comments. I've decided to go for the Vert. I went to the dealer this morning and sat in black 2007 vert and played with the power top. Very neat. I'm sure here in Indiana that the top down days will be limited but what the heck. I'm 62 and why not go for it. What will probably happen is that the Cubs will win the World Series next year, Hell will freeze over and so much for topless days. Ha!
Tough choice. My first C6 was a vert and I just bought a coupe with trans top. They are both great. The vert was a tad more fun on nice days and better looking with the top down, but the $7-8k I saved offset that pretty nicely. Either way you can't go wrong. It's a Corvette!

Stranger things have happened! But the Cubs winning. Man! Enjoy and post some pictures. Cheers
I'm ready to make the order. My last 5 vettes have been coupes. Here is what I am going order:
Silver
3LT
Transparent Top (if a coupe)
41T Black Top(if a Vert)
MXO Auto
F55
846 Titanium/Ebony Two-Tone Seats
U3U Navigation
How about some input on the pluses and minuses on a Vert.
Thanks.
Jim
Silver=great
Trans top (take it or leave it.)
Black soft top (too hot)
Auto (perfect)
F55 (better than perfect)
Ti/Eb seats (sure,what the hell)
Nav (a fun toy-but not while driving)
Vert pluses: The vert is the quietest Corvette made (road noisewise). The C6 was designed to be a convertible (so frame twist is a non-issue.) Obvious top down exposure.
Vert minuses= Easy to break-in. All anyone needs is a buck knife. The cabin electronics don't like the sun shining on them. Reduced cargo area. Increased cost to buy/insure. Decreased "security feeling" when you walk away from the car in a parking lot. Roll over risk.
here are the #'s for MY 2006=
34021 total Corvettes made.
11151 were converts.(of which 349 went to Canada!) Mexico only got 13!

I grew up in Fort Wayne. A vert is a good choice for Indiana, you'll have lots of top-down days from May to September. I've owned both, and a coupe works better for me as a daily driver. It is so hot and humid here in the summer that there are just a handful of days Spring and Fall when I would put the top down after the novelty wore off.

Enjoy your new convertible, luckyj. I drop the top of my convertible far more often than I would remove the top of a coupe. Since trunk space isn't an issue for you, I think you made a wise choice. Fort Wayne South Side class of 1968, and it took me until now to own a Corvette.

I love my 05 DSOM vert. If you can swing it, it's a blast. The trunk has enough room for 2 sets of golf clubs (try that in a Porsche), the car is beautiful, and the power top works great. The only downside I see to a vert is that many (but not all) track events will only allow verts with roll cages. If track events are in your future, go with a coupe. If not, I'll take a vert every time.
You're asking for a Solomon-like decision...watch the posts...they'll run w/in a few percentage points...like challenging a man to a duel (he gets to choose the weapons since you issued the challenge)...to which the correct response is: "axes in a blacked-out room." Dude...you can't go wrong!
