Yeah they are tryin to stick it to yah man... Jus ask em whats really going on.. NO better yet
have someone you know go in looking for the EXACT Vette you were about to buy... have em offer a 'great' amount and I bet the dealer will give them some info :]
That doesn't sound right!? That dealer should make more money for the GMID sale than a GMS sale. I would tell them to give you the GMID as agreed upon or walk out, see if that changes their minds
GM pays the dealer 5% of the MSRP on a GMS sale which is why the dealer is willing to take that sale and not a GMID.

From the GM Family First website on GM Employee Discount:
While I can't speak to GMs "official" policy on this I can tell you that regardless of what the site says, non-GM employees can get and use GMS authorization numbers.
When I was considering buying a Corvette in May I mentioned it in passing to the owner of the racing shop where I buy most of my parts. He told me that he recently received an email from his supplier who had received an email from a GM employee offering to provide GMS authorization numbers and that it might be an opportunity to save a good deal of money. So I emailed the GM employee directly and asked if he could provide me with a GMS authorization number for a new Corvette. Since he didn't know me from Adam I wasn't terribly hopeful but I figured hey, we both race sprints so maybe he would do me a favor. Plus, what did I have to lose?
He said sure he'd be happy to and asked for my full name, birthdate, last 4 of my ssn. At this point I got a little skeptical and asked my parts vendor to confirm with his supplier that this was legit. I was advised that my supplier's supplier had known this GM employee for something like 20 years. So anyway, that was good enough for me and I gave him the info he requested and I had the GMS authorization number the next day.
Ordered her at the beginning of June, rolled off the line during the first week of '07 production and arrived at my dealer at the end of June.

My new LMB 2007 coupe was just delivered and now O'reilly Chev. of
Tucson,AZ says it won't accept my GMID discount (supplier) even though it was originally agreed upon. They said they don't make enough rebate money on the GMID. They did say however they would take a GMS (employee) discount. Anyone out there willing to help?
Absolute torture; the car is within reach and they are playing games.

It is difficult to understand why someone would trust a dealer who would not give them a signed contract when they ordered the car. A printout showing a discount price does not mean much. Hope you learned something and find a better dealer.

GM is using new names for their purchase plans. There are four (that I know of). NVPP is the New Vehicle Purchase Plan available to employees & families of employees. SVPP is the Supplier Vehicle Purchase Plan for employees of GM suppliers. GMID is GM in the Driveway where GM employees can request a limited amount (two per month?) of discounts for anyone. The GMID prices are identical to the SVPP prices. The fourth is COVPP which is Company Owned Vehicle Purchase Progrem. With this GM employees can purchase vehicles that have been driven by executives for a few months. The prices are discounted below NVPP depending on how many miles the vehicle has on it. Any employee violating the guidelines can receive loss of privileges, have to repay monies or can be terminated.
I don't know what to tell you. It was definitely GMS. In fact, because it was GMS, the tough part was finding a dealer who would accept it on a Corvette. Only 3 dealers (out of nearly 40) in NorCal would even consider doing the deal. I ended up going with the one closest to where I live (98 miles away).
From an email from the dealer...
Here are the financing numbers:
Price $45,143.05 (GMS)
Fees 409.75
Sales Tax 3,502.07
Cash Downpayment -20,000.00
AMT Financed 29,054.87
Finance Charge 4,889.53
Total Payment 33,944.40
Please feel free to run the numbers and see if they work out for an '07 Monterey Red Vette, w/3LT, 6sp, chrome wheels
It might be hard for you to do, but you should walk away from that dealership and nevr do business again with them. If they call you just tell them you ordered through another dealership with GMID and hang up.

No need, glad it worked out for you that way. I know there are executive level employees that have done this but most won't / can't. The policy is very clear. Your case should be considered the exception, not the rule. The employee could lose his/her job over it.

That may very well be the case. My contact doesn't seem to care in the least. It may be that you get to a certain level and either you don't care what may happen if you go outside the policy or you know that exces are held to a different standard. Not sure which is the case. All I know is I got a smoke'n deal on a very fast (FN FASST plates on order LOL) car.
Absolutely true GMS is for GM employees and family only.
Hmmmmm, well, the fact that I have a 07 purchased with a GMS authorization code would strongly suggest that isn't the case now wouldn't it? Again, I don't know what to tell you folks that don't believe GMS authorization codes can be used by non-GM employees. I know what the policy/rules are but I also know what is sitting in my driveway and now much I paid for it. As Talon suggested, the possible ramifications can be severe, but they obviously aren't a concern of some of the GM execs.
Goleta eh? My engine builder is in your fair city....nice place!

That doesn't change the fact that GMS is only eligable for employees and family only. Just because your buddy broke the rules and got away with it doesn't make the rules different. As a matter of fact if this was to get back to your buddy his job would be on the line and GMS would no long be given to him. So I wouldn't go braggin about it on the internet. Do your friend a favor since he did you one.

Jeez man lighten up, eh? I wasn't bragging at all. I just posted a 3 word reply to Talon that GMS can be used by non-GM employees, the "rules" notwithstanding. He asked for clarification, I provided it. If you really think that top level execs don't hand out GMS #s to their friends/associates (I think they get two a month) and don't EVEN worry about it, well, I've got some land to sell ya.
I would walk.....they will probably call you but I wouldn't deal with them at this point even if they gave me the GMID deal. There are too many forum dealers that will be honest with you...I'd choose one of them. Good luck!
