Default Need Help->Purchase Decision

Hi Folks, it's been a while since I've owned my '01 Vert and since my last post. I've miss my '01 so bad that it is time to pick up a new Vette. Right now, I'm leaning towards a loaded C6 Coupe.

I stopped by a dealer today and found a fairly well loaded coupe with the LT3 package, Magnetic Ride Control, Two tops, polished wheels. Sticker was $54K.

Here's the catch: the dealer told me it was a 2005 leftover that they haven't yet sold w/ only about 55 miles on it. They told me the just want it off the lot and want to "really discount it" to do so. I asked how much the discount would be. They said they would take $10K off.

Other dealers are already taking $6K off of '06 Coupes so I'm not sure that it is that good of a deal. What do you guys think? Brand New '05 for $10K off, '06 for $6K off or '07 for $3K off and a 7 Year warranty.

Also, are there any problems in the '05 that I really need to watch out for?

Thanks!

Problems with the 05s with delaminating tops, DBS (Dead Battery Syndrome), a few fuel gage issues. Not an outstanding deal, but not bad. You really need to decide whether or not it's got everything you want for options and colors.

I don't know where you are located but Kerbeck is doing 6200 off of 07 3LT Automatic Coupes. You can even do a little better on an 07 if you can obtain a GMID and a local dealer to accept it. Good luck with your new purchase.

Check out Edmunds or Kelly Blue book for the value of an 05 with the same miles. That's all it is worth once you drive it off the lot.

Default Same with me....

Almost exactly the same thing happend to me. Although, I had a trade it. 04 Mustang Mach 1. Mine is an 05 C6 3LT convert - 145 miles never registered.

I took the 05 deal. Yea the 06's and 07's are out but the 05 I purchased had everthing I wanted. I also worked out a deal to get an updated NAV disk - the 05's do not get the free (2) update disks. You might want to look into that.

No real issues - love the 05. If it is want you want - I say buy it. All take a depreation hit but the dealer will be more movitated on the 05 that on the 06's or 07's (in my opinion). I beleive that their allocation is affected if they have an 05 on the lot. Not real sure about that though.

Good Luck. Happy driving.

Go with the one possessing the color and options you want the most. The delamination issue seems to run up until the new (SMC) roofs are manufactured.

FWIW, I've owned my 2005 for about 19 months and 12,000 miles. After the first year, I had minor stress noise coming from the roof panel when going over uneven terrain at slow speed....the roof panel was replaced and it's been fine ever since. Other than that, I haven't had any problems with my 2005....it's been flawless.

The price difference doesn't seem to be that great so ultimately, get the particular Vette that you want. Enjoy!

Generally speaking, you should always go with the newest model year. Especially when they are offering good discounts. I have a 2005 ragtop and its great, no problems. Best of luck!!

I would have to agree with the previous posters remarks. $13500 off at least, and you have a deal. You will most likely have to deal with top delam, and most importantly the car has been sitting for almost 2 years You will take a bigger depreciation hit driving that "new" 05 off the lot than you would a new 07.

I would be concerned on where the car has been. 55 miles is plenty of beating miles. My salesman encouraged me to floor the Vette I test drove on a freeway on ramp. Has it been sitting outside? If so for how long? Has the dealer washed it? How many times?

The only way to get a TRUE brand new Vette is to go down to BG and pick it up yourself. You really know exactly where that car has been from mile number 3. The first 3 miles are ridden on their onroad test facility course.

If I were you I would spend the extra 4 or 5 grand and get the 07. Not much different, but the above problems have been resolved, and it is a newer car.

I got almost $6500 off of my 07 Vert. If you can afford a new one, that would be my suggestion. The car is improved every year and you are not going to save enough money to equal the depreciation. Plus, you can get it exactly they way you want it. That's worth everything to me.

Good Luck with any of them.

Do the $10,000 deal but it must include a 6 year - 100,000 mile warranty - bumper to bumper and loaner car.

One other thing to consider, this car has been sitting for between 1.5 - 3 years on the dealers lot. The very worst thing for a car is not being driven. In most museums the cars are started and moved about once a month so that seals do not bond to rotating shafts. I had a 68 327/350 coupe that I purchased and restored in 1975. I kept this car until 2001 (sold it for lack of garage space) and I made sure it was driven at least once a month. I never had any problems with leaks except for brake calipers which I replace with stainless steel sleeved calipers.

Good luck with whatever you decision is, my vote is to get an 07.

If you love it(05), Get it! Remember the other cost factors from buying discounted from a Forum Dealer like Shipping, travel etc.

Default Thanks Guys

Guys,

Thanks for all your prompt replies. This is such a great forum with such helpful members (who also provide free sarcasm ) Your feedback is along the lines of where my head was. Then today, a lot changed. I just got back from the Ocean City Boardwalk Corvette Show - an awesome show with somewhere between 300-400 vettes of all years.

It was helpful while I try to figure out my preferred color(s). Now I'm struggling between the Cpe & Vert. And then, there were 3 new Z06's there that were absolutely smokin'. I can't get over the fender flares, scoops, wheels, etc. so now I'm actually considering one of those instead.

So yesterday I thought I might spend $44K and now I find myself contempating $77K. Ugh!

$10,000 off the sticker price of a 2 year old Vette isn't a good deal when you can get $6,000 off on an 07.
