I took my car in over the weekend so they could replace my cracked windshield on Monday, to pick it up Tuesday. Tuesday I get the call that the glass they had in stock was chipped when they took it out of the box (on Monday!), that another is on order and hopefully to be in Tuesday afternoon.
I call late Tuesday afternoon and, no, the glass isn't in and there are no windshields available anywhere in the southeast, maybe anywhere. No idea when one might be found. So, I'll just pick the car up since it is only a 6-8 inch crack so far, right? No the old glass was out before they checked the new one. I'm not a happy camper!
If you happen to have HUD/NAV/ONSTAR make sure they are ordering the correct windshield. These items cannot work with a "generic" replacement windshield.

That's interesting.
Back when I owned my C5 there were a few people on the C5 board who claimed a regular C5 windshield would be sufficient for HUD instead of paying the extra bucks for an "official" HUD windshield.
Wonder what changed.
After all HUD's HUD & glass is glass.
That sounds like a typical dealer snafu. As far as "paying extra" for a replacement (HUD/NAV/OnStar compliant) windshield, I'd suggest to always carry full glass coverage on your auto insurance and always insist on the appropriate, OEM windshield. Excpeting the small additional insurance premium the replacement windshield won't cost anything and you're assured of getting the correct glass in the car. Don't accept an after-market windshield.
Look at the bright side, they at least didn't put the chipped one in, thinking you wouldn't see it.
True, and I had thought of that. But of course they know the chip could lead to another crack and the dealership would eat the cost of replacing the windshield a second time, as well as have a really unhappy camper for a customer.
This is supposed to be a new HUD/NAV windshield and that's probably why it's not readily available.
