My new 2007 Machine Silver coupe has less than 1700 miles on it. Recently it got two good size stone chips right down to the fiberglass on the nose cap just to the left of the flags. It happened on the freeway when a truck tossed a rock. I've taken it to a couple of places to see about getting them fixed and both tell me that, for it to look right, they'll have to spray the entire nose cap of the car. For those of you that have some experience with body work on the Vette, is it impossible to repair rock chips and get it to match without repainting the entire nose of the car?
I agree....to get it 'perfect,' you'll likely have to do more than a spot touch up. IMO, I'd have a professional attempt a spot touch up first and see how it turns out. Ultimately, you could always repaint the nose and then overlay with the clear bra.
I've got a few small dings on my hood from a fluorescent light bulb falling onto my car (what are the odds?). Ultimately, I'll have a professional try to touch them up before considering a hood repaint.
go to my web site : c6.81x.com. Free - look under "scrtch / spot" . There's lots of links and information there on how to do this. You can definitely do this yourself well enough to pass the "two-foot test". However, yes - if you want an absolutely perfect result undetectable with a microscope, then you need a repaint.
Guitarstar's advice is a good option.
For just one or two chips, I prefer to use the standard touchup paint and wet sanding technique - see the web site. This is VERY easy to do and get good results.
Consider a bra to be used for long highway trips. One problem with a clear bra is that they cost >= 2X more than it should cost you to repaint the nose anyway. So many guys just take their lumps and repaint the nose every 2 or 3 years. Out in my neck of the woods, that costs less than $300.

But is it really worth it to repaint the whole nose on the car, because rock chips will happen over time. The only way to prevent them is a car bra.
As you drive home from the body shop, it could happen again. I just have to live with it here in CO where every stone is a multipointed piece of granite. Touch it up the best you can and live with it.
GM makes a chip repair kit, too. There's a stiff fiber brush for cleaning out the chip. Then you add paint with the instrument provided (not a brush), waiting 24 hours between coats until you've built it up. Then you carefully wet sand it flush. Then you use the polish to restore the clearcoat. Then wax. If you look really closely, you can still see where the repair was done, but this is a good 80% fix, and easier than repainting the nose a few times a year.
