I was wondering if anyone knew of or heard and rumors about chevy putting the z06 engine into the base model c6 and coming up with a new engine for the z06..if so when??
In 2008 the LS2 and LS7 go away. GM is closing the LS2 plant, and the LS7s are hand built at the GM development center, too costly for high production. All Corvettes will get an engine based on the new 6.2 liter L92 currently seen in the 2007 Cadillac Escalade (where it is rated at 403 hp). A different intake manifold and different tuning will deliver 425 hp in the regular C6 coupes and verts. The Z06, renamed the SS, will get a supercharged version of the L92 engine reported to make 650 hp.
Note that the L92 was engineered to meet the tougher emissions and fuel economy standards which go into effect in 2008. It features displacement on demand and several other features which allow it to meet the new requirements. The LS2 was originally to be fitted with DoD, but there were problems, and that effort has been discontinued.
