Hey there! I was walking to my car the other day in the parking garage (at work) and noticed something strange under the driver side mirror. Looked like the paint had bubbled or something . I have an '05 (see pic). Anyone know of any problems like this with that year? I guess it could always just be a small defect when they originally painted the car. Any suggestions?
You will not find a perfect paint job on any C6. It just does not happen. The factory could provide a better paint job but as long as the car is selling well there is no incentive to improve their paint equipment and spend more money.
It took me a few days after owning my VY coupe, but I found some flaws. One blemish under the clear on the hood, and a paint run along the edge of a body panel. I debated about making this into a big hassle with taking it back to the dealer, but decided to live with it & be happy with the car overall. I don't trip on it after deciding not to make a case over this.
It is easier to justify the flaws after driving a bunch of miles & getting a few chips that I had to touch up. It makes me realize it will never be flawless unless I took it in to a professional & refinished the whole thing (including wet sand & new clear to remove orange peel).
If it is actually a defect, I would think that you would have noticed it before now. Maybe something clear has splashed on it and dried and it only looks like a bubble in the paint? I took delivery on mine 3 weeks ago and have not found any defects yet. I have gone over it closely while detailing it too.

Yes, the paint down the middle isn't a very good match for the rest of the car...
Here's Wil Cooksey Jr studying the problem while attending Corvettes @ Carlisle...
Ya know, my 07 VR coupe, as reported on another thread is about as perfect as I've seen. My LMB 05 coupe did have a couple small issues. My wife saw me studying this one afternoon while detailing it.
Her assessment was to relate it to a small birthmark on my Daughter's right butt cheek. I rest my case.
I have noticed where the robots were getting a bit thin in the rear fascia around the plate mounting. No problem since looking behind or through my tag is beyond my capabilities.
(How **** must we be to remove the tag and wax under it?)
actually the factory recently did a whole upgrade to the paint process. The corvettes have two difficulties that say for instance BMW does not ahve. Plastic is a more difficult substrate to paint then metal. A lot of cars with Urethane bumpers have problems with paint match. The second problem is a change in the solvent carrier for automotive paint to a more enviromental friendly water base. I am not sure that cars built in europe or Japan suffer from that yet. That being said the paint job does have its share of defects however it is mass produced for a price. We all talk about the bang for the buck on these cars and realize the complaints about the interior and paint job could be corrected for a price The paint job on the porsche for instance is beautiful as it should be on a car that cost as much as it does.
