I just said pretty much the same thing about the HUD, too . . .
I'm from the keep it simple school of design, and would not have gotten it if I had the choice. When I drive a car without it, I miss it, but I'm okay without it to.
For me, it's a "nice-to-have" not a "need-to-have."
I think a lot of technology eventually runs the cycle from luxury to convenience to necessity to obsolete, when the next technology takes its place.

I like the keyless start and the dash start button. The dash start button is not a new feature. Several vintage European sports cars had a red dash start button. The computer chip in the fob just keeps some never-do-well from breaking into your car, pressing the start button and driving away with your car. The key and door release cables have nothing to do with the dependability of the fob to open your doors and start the engine. They are a back-up in case of total loss of car's primary battery power so, that you can get in the car to raise the hood for battery cable jump. And to open the rear hatchback, when you are outside of the car.

I worked as a fire truck mechanic for 41 years. 95% of the vehicles had push button starts. Got use to jumping into the vehicles to start them up. None were ever locked on the fleet I worked on.
Made my C6 system felt like an old friend.
Will never buy another vehicle with a key.
