I would. I need the BIGGER screen else I'd need to wear my reading glasses while driving to see the text on the small 3.5 or 4" screens.
Plus I like the HUD integration and when I'm on the road with the stereo CRANKED I like how the system lowers the volume so I can hear the NAV voice commands. Too many short comings for me to make the portable systems worth while.

I'm looking for a quality portable unit for my daily driver, but so far the screen size has been a major stumbling block.

i got my wife the "pocket-size" garmin quest. at 4.5" x 2.2" (entire unit. screen is even smaller) you'd think it would be impossible to read, especially at my age (55) and with my bad eyes. however, with its 256-color high res screen, great graphics, and intelligent design/layout, the clarity and ease of use is amazing. i prefer it to my much larger factory nav.
city, state, and street OK. i go to enter the number.
screen displays: [1000-18099]:
so far so good. numbers up to 5 digits. i enter: 1780_
but before i can enter the last digit, the number keypad grays out and i can't enter the final "1". wtf?
anybody else have this happen? any workaround?
Our car is a 2006 with the new version 3 map disc.
I put our nav system in the CA region and tried entering your address, had exactly the same problem as you described.
When I tried entering the street name before the city, the street name would default to something like "Main Street *** ***" and would only have 4 digit numbers available for the address.
Finally, I put the system back in our local region (IL) and tried entering the address where I grew up (well, my wife says I never grew up...):
18521 Gladville Avenue
Homewood, IL
That worked just fine, so I can't explain why your Main Street address gets grayed out. Please post if you learn more.

thanks jim and others who replicated this anomaly. i reported it using the link posted above. i'll post if/when i hear anything back.
My nav has never been right...good thing I tried it on about a dozen addresses that I knew how to get to before I trusted it on a trip...It would tell me to turn the opposite way I was supposed to; kept telling me to take u-turns when I was on the path it told me to be on...I'll never trust it on a trip

I have photochromatic sunglasses (darken in the light and lighten in the dark) to which I have applied stick on reading lenses found at many of the chain drugstores. I need the reading lenses to read the DIC, gauges and stereo displays so reading the portable Garmin iQue 3600 (combination GPS & Palm Pilot) is not a problem at all. When I need it in my truck, other car or motorcycle, I just transfer it. Its a lot better than having to purchase one option for each vehicle.
I wonder if we polled owners with Nav if they could do it again, would they spend $1800 on the Vette nav or spend $500 for a portable Garmin that you can use in your winter car as well???
Yep, I'd get it again. Besides, this IS my Winter car (and Spring, Summer and Fall).
My 2 cents is, in this day and age, it's silly to buy a vehicle without NAV if it is offered! Sure, you can do without it but having it makes things a lot easier. And I definitely don't want to deal with a dangling/suction cup unit. I did that in my C5 and it was such a pain! Not as painful as a map maybe, but bad enough that I wouldn't do anything but a built-in unit any more.
Well, my 2 cents is that I like being able to take out my TT ONE and slip it into my back pocket. Also, its mount is so small that I wouldn't say it dangles at all, way smaller than the 300 I used before, but the screen is still clear and the maps are clear with no problems. It's my personal preference, and its also nice to take with me because I use the metro sometimes.
