Default Vette Power...

We read a lot about all the moron and idiot drivers out there! Today however I had the opposite experience. I was trying to get out of convenience store parking lot and had to cross a one lane on a super busy street to go in my direction. I was about to give and go the opposite way and turn around somewhere. A young guy in a tricked out Mitsubishi Eclipse stops and waves me out. He actually had to stop all the cars behind him because traffic was moving pretty fast. The street is 1 lane each way but quickly widens to 2 lanes through town. He pulled up along side me and yells out, “Nice freaken car man.. Awesome”! .. I said thanks a lot for letting me out and he said I had to man to get a better look at that vette! Bottom line is that nice people also drive tricked out Japanese cars. I now have to refrain from using the “R” word to describe those cars and their drivers hence forth….

One does have to appreciate his good intentions (and his good taste in cars).

Sometimes, people trying to be nice and let someone cut-through traffic has disastrous consequences. Besides seeing numerous accidents where someone is trying to turn left through several lanes of traffic backed-up at a light, and someone lets them cut-through, only to result in an accident.

A few years back, I actually saw a woman killed. She was trying to turn left through 2 lanes of solid cars, someone (trying to be nice) let her through and she made it into the 3rd (curb/turn) lane. Some kid (instead of using the curb lane to turn right onto a street or business) was using the curb lane as a drive lane....going about 50 mph. The woman cutting through traffic could not see the oncoming car. The impact was great enough it actually broke the concrete curb. She died and the kid was cited.

As much as I appreciate people's good intentions by letting someone cut through traffic....I've seen too many accidents caused by it. For me, if traffic is that bad....I won’t spit into the wind….I'll go the 'wrong' way and do a U-turn and come back.

As a former state LEO belive me I know when it's safe and not safe... but what you say is absolutely correct. In this case I had a clear view of all on coming cars both ways. He was smart and stopped leaving me by about 75 ft ft to pull out. It was virtually impossibe (nothing is totally impossible ) to have another car involved. I know exactly they type of situations you refer to but this wasn't one of them because of the field of vision I had....

It's good to hear there are still some decent folks out on the road.

I have noticed something as well when I am in the fast lane and going ehumm at a rapid but appropriate pace people will get out of the way when I am in the vette without flashing the lights etc. Not used to it as well does not happen when I am in my acura nor did it happen in the supra. I used to have.
