Anyone had this series of trouble with their CD player. First.... it shows that it is full of disc's with only one in it, Second...its got a disc stuck in it that it will not eject. Third..... when i get it to accept one disc...the disc skips on almost all the songs. Fourth......CD player displays "CD MECH ERROR" when I try to eject the last disc?
Mine won't read most cdr's I put in, without skipping. And the mp3 player stops halfway through almost every song. It seems the cd player is the worst part of the car.
Add on to that the horrible sound quality of the xm radio, I would throw the whole system out, but the navigation system isn't that bad..

Dealers won't attempt to repair CD players, and yours needs repair. They'll simply swap it out for another one. Warranty covers this, only problem is that they'll have to pull the unit to get the serial number, then order a new one (actually more likely a refurbished one), so it won't be a quick fix. Your car may be in the shop a week or more.
OTOH, a good stereo shop will have a tech who could clean and align the mechanism, solving the problem without the need for a stereo swap. Once it is out of the car, its a 10 minute job to fix it correctly. So your car would be in the shop for less than half a day. Downside is, you'll have to pay for the repair out of your own pocket.

Wow is that a terrible way to handle this issue - keep your car (which is useable except for the CD) while waiting for a replacement? They're having to give you a loaner (I assume) while the car is being worked on. Putting the defective unit back in would at least give you wheels while waiting. The take-apart/replace cycle would almost certainly be cheaper than giving a car for the week.
Rolling my eyes - I do hope I can find a smarter dealer. Although, I hasten to add, they work within the constraints that GM places on them in terms of warranty service and if GM doesn't pay for the extra time then they won't do it.
Nevertheless...sheesh.
Thanks for your comments, shopdog, always appreciated. Even if I get grumpy as a result...
Store bought CD's seem fine, but on CDR's I've made, I get skips after the unit runs through a number of songs, and the problem seems worse when I touch the brakes, even w/o a lurch, meaning it might be electrical in nature? However, the problem has gotten better over time, so maybe the unit can learn???

My experience with my 06 / Bose, I ONLY listen to CDR's and CDRW's and have never had any type of issue. You will have to get a different head unit from GM but as SHOPDOG stated it will most likely be a refurb. No biggy though, they look and work perfect so let GM deal with it IMO. Best of luck.

Took it in today...they had to order a new unit and it will be in next week. The service manager told me it was because I was playing CD's that I had burned myself and that he has had no cd player problems if bought cd's were the only ones being used.
I just read your post. I bought some burned Cd's from a Dj in Hawaii. For some reason my car kepy saying "Mech Error" after I played those CD's. I guess you are right. No more burned Cd's. The sound system in the Vettes is not up to par in my opinion. No deep bass. It will be one of the first things to go!
I play quite-a-few compilation CDs I've burned without issue. When you record your own CDs, I've found it helps to burn them on the slowest speed possible. Also, experiment with various media....some brands work better on different players (I've had good results using TDK).
I agree with Wayne O. I have an 07 Vette and have had no problems with playing CD-Rs. Make sure you are not using CD-RWs as the owners manual states it the cd player will have problems playing them. Keep the song titles and folder names below 32 characters in length. I have used Maxell CD-R pro discs with no problems even when I burn at max speed but burning at a lower speeds helps ensure cd player compatibility.
Perhaps the prob is with 06 Vettes? I play burnded Cd's in mine with no problem. The only Cd's I had aprob with were the ones from Hawaii. I don't know what brand they are. Never seen them before here. Strange.
I've had zero issues with my CD player, but did have the radio replaced. Yes, the radio had to be pulled to get the serial number, but the dealer put it back in and I simply brought my car in for the new one when it came in. The whole deal was simple and painless.
2007 c6 coupe...have navigation cd/dvd player...I have had no trouble playing Burned cds from Itunes or regular cds...no skips unless the cd is scratched bad.
I have had trouble with mine recognizing some CD's. Says no CD present. The same CD's work fine in the wife's car and home players. I seem to have noticed skipping on some CD's after they have been playing a while. Anyone notice how hot the CD gets if left in the player for an hour or so?
