Am I the only one having this much trouble with this Top Recall?
I've made 3 trips, have received paperwork for 1.
I am so Pi**ed off at the poor paint job & all the scratches they put on my Car. I have left 3 messages for the Service Mgr to call me in the last week and a half & haven't received a call back yet.
It just keeps getting worse each time I take my 'Vette in.
They are supposed to be the #1 Dealer in our area. If they are I don't know where else to take it to get it right.
My local dealership said they only need to inject foam adhersive through a screw hole on the side of the roof panel. Did yours actually separated ? Is that why it needs to be painted ?
Mine failed before the RECALL was announced, my local dealer ordered a new SMC roof and headliner back in Aug when they were hard to get and within 3 weeks my new freshly painted top was installed.
My top was not failed. The Tech got some foam on the frame so they ordered me a new SMC top. I left my top with them, took my car to my garage. 6 days later my new top was installed with my help. It is perfect.
My original top seperated at the back edge. My dealer ordered a new one, no questions. They painted the new top without having the car or the top and then transfered the latches. Perfect match and finish, but it was still a poly carbonate top... Then I got a recall notice. My dealer does NOT do the foam.... So they didn't do it to the replacement top.... When I went in they just ordered a new SMC top ( again no queations ) which I am waiting for right now. My current top is fine with no signs of seperation so I am ok with the wait.
My C6 was delivered on 3 March 2005. About a year or more later I had some minor stress noise (from the roof panel) when going-over uneven terrain at slow speeds. I never noticed any visible delamination.
In early May 2006 they performed the adhesive/foam fix. As this was the dealership's first experience with this procedure...they botched it. The adhesive/foam had oozed-out and was visible all along the interior rear edge of the roof panel/headliner....you couldn't see it from the outside but the interior looked horrible. They informed me they would order a replacement roof panel (not the SMC panel at that time).
The replacement roof panel arrived in about a week and I scheduled a day to take the car in. They wanted the car in order to paint the new roof panel to match (Magnetic Red Metallic II). I was told this would be a two day job. Just before I was to pickup the car, the Service Advisor called and said, "You have a special paint" (Duh). It turns-out when they told me to bring the car in, they did not even have the correct paint to do the job.
The 2 day job turned into a 9 day job while I waited for the dealership to get Magnetic Red paint.
The end result, however, was satisfactory. The painted roof panel matches very well and they did a good job. If you use a microscope, you can find 2 or 3 pinhead sized beads of paint but overall, the paint is fine. I have not experienced any further stress noise from the new roof panel....the adhesive/foam fix seems to have worked.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it. I hope the 'roof' situation improves for you.

My 2nd roof delamined. Took it in this week. They foamed it to keep in in one piece (I swear it creaks more now than before). Hopefully my SMC replacement roof will be ready today. I am concerned about the paint though.
My dealer took my top and needed it for a few days to replace the top and liner. I get it back on Monday. They send it to one of the best body shops in San Diego for painting. I'll let you know how it looks when I get it back on Monday.

My top had partial separation (rear edge) before the recall notices went out. Dealer did the temporary foam fix and ordered the new SMC roof. When they had the new roof and liner and the roof was painted, I brought in my old roof so they could transfer the latches, etc. Got the new roof back and I am happy. The new roof did have swirl marks, but they were easy to remove. After that, I applied Rejex and you'd never know the roof had been replaced.

GM service does not return calls. Thought this was a Tucson thing but it seems to be everywhere. I'll be shocked if GM still exists 10 years from now.
Go in to get top checked, it was not "part" of the "recall"....1 month later it flies off, dealership was awesome, fixed it with the CORRECT top within a week.
3 months later i get a "recall" letter from GM about the top.

I am told now that the Recall is for all C6 Corvettes with Removable Tops.
The Foam injection is a temp fix. It may not work at all in some cases.
The Drivers Door on my Car looks like the guy who was buffing out the Top layed his friggin Belt Buckle on the Door and put numerous horizontal scratches in the Drivers Door. I was so concerned about the Top I didn't pay close attention to the car plus it was getting Dark.
I own a Lexus LS430 as well. I gotta tell you the difference between Lexus Service & Corvette Service is opposite ends of the Spectrum. Scale of 1 to 10, 10 being best. Lexus is 10. Corvette is 2. I give it a 2 because I think the guys are doing the best they can given their education & what GM programs them to do.
The way they're going about this fix is so dumb I can't believe it. GM should just send a Painted new Roof. Not all this part swapping from old to new and then allowing aftermarket sub Par Paint jobs by Dealers.
