So sorry sounding like a broken record, but I love my car at the same time hate to drive it. My 05 was perfect except being black and hard to keep clean. Got the 07 Victory Red, and the smell inside gives you a headache and burns your eyes with the strong odor of glue. Been to the dealer (salesman) with no invoices and they are telling me this is standard on corvettes since they are made of fiberglass like I don't know that. My question to all you brother vette owners is this true? All those who bought 07 do you have a nice new car smell or bucket of glue. I feel the dealership is trying to get out of finding what is wrong. I just had the service manager come to the house and he admits the smell but says it normal. Its my fault because I keep the car covered and don't keep the windows down to air out. Anyone know a back door to a rep I can get to look at the car? I can't get anyone to give me a number to contact one. I wrote the owner and general manager with no response. I have a complaint number from GM which probably isn't worth much. I love my car, want to enjoy driving it but sitting in a bucket of glue isn't that much fun. Again anyone else having this problem let me know. How did you fix it and how long does it takes to purge? My car is three (3) months old now with only 2300 miles. Thanks everyone hope I am the exception to the rule.
I was astounded to learn how much money the big manufacturer's spend on R & D to perfect that 'new car' smell. I certainly no have any similar problem on my 2005. If the service manager actually came to your house, they certainly seem like they're trying.
Some people are just more susceptible to being affected by various odors (like my wife who drives me crazy trying to get rid of every odor....generally with something that smells even worse). With that in-mind, you could always hang one of those little evergreen scented pine trees off your rearview mirror.
Seriously, I think you should make a major effort to air the car out....when you drive and when it's parked....24/7. Do that for a month or two and if it's still a problem, then I would pursue the dealer and/or GM with a vengeance.
The plastic /vinyl is outgassing. This will take 4-6 months depending on the temperature. Mine stunk up the garage for a month. (The first week it REALLY stunk!) Rolling the windows down helps a lot. Have any of you owners noticed the "checkerboard" pattern on the glass inside surfaces? That's outgassing! The rear window is notorious because it traps the fumes. Easily removed with a sliced raw onion rubbed on it. Windex doesn't even touch it! Acetone might work too but the rear window defroster won't like you afterwards!
Just took delivery of an '07 two weeks ago and I love the smell of new interior and leather. My neighbor even commented on how good it smelled and he was over 10 feet away.
