Fantastic! That's exactly the way I want them to work -- pull on right paddle to up-shift and pull on left to down-shift. Plus you can still use the top thumb paddles, if needed.
YES!!! This is the mod I have wanted to do since I got my 2007 C6 A6. I am hoping someone who is doing this will post here exactly how he got to those tan and purple wires and switching them!

It's done and working.
Thank you to all who posted information -- especially GMautotech.
GREAT JOB...WELL DONE!!
Fantastic writeup & Pics...going to do it myself tommorow! Thanks much! Finally got A6 paddle shifting like it should have been done by GM!
Is there any way to change the paddle shifter so that I can press down to down shift and pull up to up shift? I ride a motorcycle as well and I find this whole backwards shift feature frustrating.
Very counterintuitive(sp)! It took me some time to adjust. I have downshifted accidently when I meant to upshift and it still happens, although very seldom any more.
Hi...I succesfully did Dan's writeup and voila, the right shift paddle is now UPSHIFT. However, I did not bother disconnecting the airbag, nor the horn ring, and was still able to access the paddle shift to take it apart. I did have some problem getting the plug to unconnect but a needle nose plier to pull it out did the trick. I also had a problem removing the white retaining clip from the female end of the plug (perhaps I was too brutal-see later) and finally got it yanked out. I used a very small scewdrirver to push the pins out of the other end and them switched them and pushed the pins back into the plug. When I tried to put the white retaining clip it wouldnt fit, I think I busted it. But no problem, the male ends are 1/2" long and went into the female pins just fine and then locked in the plugs into place. Tested it and works fine! Only note here is I believe its OK to splice the wires (plenty of room in the paddle to hold the splice) if you dont want to mess with the plug/pins. Either way, its pretty easy to do and works extremely successfully. I want to thank Dan for his writeup and pioneer work and GMautotech who supplied the wire diagram and figured out the wire switch. Oh, and dont forget to disconnect the battery too, just to make sure the airbag doesnt blow up
I try to use the Paddles as much as possible and I still find myself pulling back on the paddle to upshift. It has a lot to do with riding a motorcycle. Your hand just wants to pull back (like on the clutch lever) or your foot wants to Pull up on the toe and then just Push down to drop the gears down. If it's a switch, then maybe it's just 2 little wires, cut and reverse...
I always convert my motorcycle to up-shift when you push the shift lever down as in racing. Simple modification and much nicer than stock.
I pulled up the schematics of the paddle shifters and up/down can be reversed - kind of. Battery voltage is supplied through a 4.4k ohm resistor for the up shift and a 1.5k ohm resistor for the down shift. The only wires that can be changed, go from the right paddle to the left paddle. If the tan and purple wires from the right paddle are reversed then the right paddle will then up-shift with a pull and down-shift with a push. But the left paddle with still operate normaly (personally I like that idea anyway, pull the right paddle to up-shift and pull the left paddle to down-shift, I think that's like the F1 cars). To change the left paddle it would have to be disassembled to even see if it can be changed internally (the resistors are in the left paddle switch). I don't have access to one to try this on. But if I did I would like to change that too.
has this ever been done - I would love to have the left paddle pulled downshift and the right paddle pulled upshift like most paddle shift cars
