I put on a set of Bullets about a month ago, sound great but they are getting too loud for the girlfriend , so I am replacing the with Corsa Sports. I bought a set of Corsa Sports off of Ebay and one of them showed up dented. See the pictures below. Is this dent going to make a difference in the performance and sound of the muffler or is the dent on no consequence and just cosmetic?
I saw these on ebay as well but called Corsa before bidding. I sent them the ebay pic and asked the same question. The guy told me the dents were deep enough to have an effect on the resonance cancelling system, but would not affect the performance in any way. Since my main concern was to eliminate drone, I opted not to buy them. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
The picture from Ebay did not have any dents, I would not have purchased them if a saw dents. I may try to get a strong suction cups and pop the dents out.
No, I didn't get a deal. They came with a Corsa X Pipe, so I consider it a fair deal with undented mufflers. Pulling the dent out sounds like a good idea.
Instead of drilling holes, most body shops use a tool that welds a little pin to the sheet metal. After using the pin to pull the dent, it's ground off leaving no holes in the sheet metal. You might take the muffler to a body shop and see if they can help, it shouldn't be more than 1 hour labor to get that muffler back in shape.
I just sold a set to a forum member that had a dent in it. It was on the right side of the drivers can not quite as big as yours and I called Corsa and they said as long as it wasn't crushed it would have no effect on sound or performance.
You won't be able to see it anyway since it will tuck up under the car. If taking the dent out makes you feel better then I would get it done.
You should be fine whether you mount it with the dent or take the time to get it fixed.
If the dent is less than 0.5" deep, popping the dent may work. I would be concerned if it is deeper. There are concentric cylinders inside the muffler that are part of the resonators. The outer annulus is fairly thin and a small dent can impact the sound transmission path.
I know you'd hate to do it but if it can't be repaired correctly, would Corsa 'refurbish' the dented can? I know Corsa sells systems but perhaps they would sell just the replacement part?
I would complain to the seller and try to get my money back.
I guess stuff on ebay is normally as is, but if the picture wasn't dented, I'd say I was misled and try to get a refund. If not able to I'd definately be giving the seller negative feedback.
