What would be your first choice: extended warranty or new exhaust? I"ve had my vette for 10 months with 8,000miles, and trying to decide which one should I purchase first. Opinions please.
I would do the warranty first because of time constraints.
You can double your original warranty for around $900 if you catch the dealer at the right time. They are negotiable and the end of each month is the time to do some bargaining.
Keep in mind if you plan on keeping the car, there are 18 computers onboard your C6!
Warranty..... C6's are great cars, but there's lots of wonderful and mysterious things going on in those computers everytime you turn the key.
If wonderful turns into mysterious, I suspect it could get awfully expensive.

I turned down the extended warranty because I plan on driving only 6,000 miles per year. I figure from year 4-6 of the car's life it will have 18K - 36K miles on it which does not justify a warranty IMO. Most cars (even GM's) don't need major repairs in that range unless there is a bad part festering. Usually (not always of course) these bad parts fail within the first three years of driving. You are on a pace to hit 28K miles after the third year which is not as low as my situation but still below the 36K normal warranty range. So if you buy the extended warranty, the first 8K miles are a theoretical throw away.
If you treat the car with normal respect and it has been reliable up to this point - go for the exhaust.
Keep in mind extended warranty prices go up after 12 months of ownership. Exhaust prices stay the same or go down a little.
If you get the GM extended warranty (check Fichtner Chevrolet), the miles/months that you buy are ADDED onto the miles/months your car already has. Prices go up every October 1, and they go up if you have over 12k miles OR 12 months ownership.
We bought our extended warranty from Fichtner in mid-September, were able to "add" 11,300 miles and 7 months we already had on the car!
If you are like me (It was my retirement gift to myself as well) and are going to keep the car for a few years, I would get the warranty because the basic warranty that comes with the car does not cover everything that can go wrong with these great machines. Besides you can alway pick up a used exhaust system later for a lot less money. The only bad part of this is if to want to mod your car a lot.
I've never been a proponent of buying an extended warranty on a new car. I guess they afford peace of mind in the event of a major malfunction (after the new car's initial factory warranty ends) but the majority of extended warranty purchasers in effect pay the repair bill for those that do have a problem. Like with any insurance, it's nice to have in the event of a problem but always....the insurance carrier is the one that always benefits.
If your only planned modification is an after-market exhaust and having the peace of mind the extended warranty would provide is important to you....go for the warranty.....get the exhaust later.
Get the warranty so when you get your new exhaust you can drive the h*** out of it until your dieing breath. What a car! What a country! God Bless the USA!
