So I was cruising on the highway today going about 70mph with the traction control and active handling turned on. All of a sudden, the orange traction control light comes on as if it sensed slippage and cut off power to my rear wheels causing my car to lose control for a 1/100th of a second. It totally freaked me out. It felt like my tires slipped on some ice. The road was not wet and it was 50 degrees out. The weird part is, the traction control light stayed on until I turned off the engine. Has this happened to anyone before?
Oh, and the "Service Traction Control System" message didn't appear. No chimes sounded either.
When this happened, did you try cycling-through the TC/AH options to see if the Service TC System stayed constant? I take it you left everything as it was and the warning only cleared upon re-start.
You might put a code reader on it to see if any fault codes were stored. If you don't have a code reader, I've heard Autozone will check your car for fault codes.
It could have been a computer glitch or a malfunctioning sensor. If there are no further episodes, I would ask your dealership to check it out the next time you take the car in.
