38,000 miles now. I change when the DIC says, between 6,000 and 8,000 miles, and so far zero oil consumption. (Well, certainly not zero, but too small to notice any drop on a dipstick.) I'd consider a quart in 2800 miles excessive, though GM doesn't. But a quart low isn't going to hurt the engine unless you're routinely pulling some serious G and uncovering the oil pickup.
I think I added an extra quart between the first and 2nd oil changes(1800-6800 miles). I drive the car really hard(hit the rev limiter in 4th the other day), but I am not sure that is it. I have a feeling it is choking some oil at start up.
My 05 vert Z51 consumes oil like my wife goes thru my money!! i have about 2700 miles, and had one oil change at 1200 miles. Since i got the car i've personally added over three mobile 1 to keep the oil level at the third hole. What is going on? Anyone else with this agressive oil consumption?
How many miles on the car? Do you drive the car hard? Are you using the correct oil? If low milage, and normal driving it should not use oil. 14000 miles and never added oil between changes,
Part of the '01 model year used rings with reduced tension against the wall. Some of those rings didn't seat and had some oil consumption. Mine was one. GM said "we'll do a teardown and replace the rings or we'll give you a 100K warrantee on the engine". I took the warrantee. At 25,000 miles the rings suddenly seated and the oil consumption went to zero.
Zero consumption on two C6s.
Lucky guy. My '01 was a qt/4k miles after breakin, was up to a qt/3k miles by the time I traded it at 68k.
Our C6 seems to be burning about 1 qt per 12k miles.
My 05 C6 loses about 1 quart every 1500-2000 miles. PITA, and not much can be done unless you want a GM tech ripping the engine open and redoing rings, which is what service told me needed to be done to solve the problem after running 2 consumptions tests.
