Last weekend I checked the oil level and had to add a quart just to get to the lowest line on the dip stick. It has been 2800 miles since my last oil change. Any chance this could cause damage?
Normally I change every 3000 miles and the lowest the level has ever been is to the low line on the dip stick.
I'm sure this topic has been discussed before, just wondering if GM has had a lot of complaints in this area.
I recall the C5 had a ring problem on many cars. My C5 hardly used any oil.

What oil? There are lengthly discussions on the WRX forums on how Mobil 1 5W-30 get's consumed pretty fast in some turbo engines because it's more like a 20W instead of a 30. Best advice is to try a different brand oil of the same weight and see if that makes any difference.
As long as you never lost oil pressure (doubtful), no damage done.

Good point. Try Pennzoil Platinum. It meets latest GM specs.
Almost sure no harm done with only a quart low. Just think of all the 1000s of people that never look under the hood. Here, so far no usage between 3000 mile chages.
My check oil level light has come on twice in 8700 miles.Usually when I'm less than 50% oil life left on the monitor.I just hit reset.I add some +- 1/2 a quart.I have an 05 z51 MZ6 coupe.

...
I've had several oil analysis' done when running mobil1 5W-30, the results always come back that it's in the middle of the 30 range, not the lower. The "thin Mobil1" story seems to be unfounded. OTOH, there are some 30 oils that are close to or actually in the 40 range, so they are indeed thicker than M1. Which may be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your conditions.
Also, the C6 seems rather sensitive to any unlevel surface when checking the oil; I can get + or - 1/2 qt just by parking in different gas stations that all look level. I check it in my garage, it's almost level and it's the same every time.

Make sure you check the dip stick with the car on LEVEL ground. The slightest angle will result in very different readings.
I am surprised a low oil type of light didnt come on because I am sure these cars would have that. I have never had to add oil to my 05 however I have only 5,700 miles on the car and the oil has been changed twice by myself. I am sure there would be no engine damage.
I only had to add oil, once during the break-in period of my '06 C6. Level was below the last round hole of the dipstick. Bought two quarts of Mobile 1 and added about 1/4 - 1/2 of the first quart, to bring oil levels to the top. I keep the two quart bottles in the my cargo net, just in case. Have not added any oil 6+ months later. Did my first oil change in late October.

Part of the '01 model year used rings with reduced tension against the wall. Some of those rings didn't seat and had some oil consumption. Mine was one. GM said "we'll do a teardown and replace the rings or we'll give you a 100K warrantee on the engine". I took the warrantee. At 25,000 miles the rings suddenly seated and the oil consumption went to zero.
Yeah, my '05 w/ 7k on the odo has consumed more than 1.5 quarts in the past 1500 miles! It is worse than the '98 LS1 that I had...I hate mobile one...will it cause any warranty strife if I switch?
