I took my car in for State Farm (her ins co.) look at the damage she did to my fender. Apparently, the guy came up with a whopping $1,602 estimate. I have a feeling I will be fighting them tooth and nail unless I just have my insurance take care of it which I may do.
Agree, let your insurance agent handle this. They should be able to get with the other company and work it out. You should not be out anything for this.
Always let your insurance company take care of it ... they will get it fixed right, with no short cuts (normally) and then go after the person's company for the cost. The other persons insurance will always look for the cheapest way out ...
The body shop says the fender needs to be replaced, and the hood, fascia, and door need to be blended in with paint.
that sounds exactly right. the price is also what it should be. the fender is only about 250 so the rest they are charging you to paint and install. make sue your fender liner is not damaged

Fenders are cheap, so it makes sense to just replace it. But blending is the lazy painter's way of doing a repair. Make them paint the fender the correct color, and blending won't be needed. A good paint shop can do a custom mix that'll exactly duplicate OEM appearance. Its tedious to get the mix just right, and they'll have to shoot some test panels to confirm the match, that's why they don't want to do it, but it can be done, and should be done on a high end car.
