I test drove my 2005 C6 automatic, my 2006 C6 manual, and last week I test drove a NEW Z06, they had to pull it off the showroom floor for me, I did not end up buying it.
I need to test drive any car before I buy it.
If I ever decide to swap for an C6 with the A6 tranny you can bet I will drive that too.
When I drove my C6 off the lot on the way home it was the first Vette that I had driven in over 35 years. There were no disappointments. I knew what I wanted and I got it.
Dealer actually talked wife and I into driving it. That was my mistake. Once we drove it we bought it. Now it sits in the garage except on nice days. Can't stand to get it dirty.
Nope. Drove a '60, a '78, and an '81. When we were in a position to get an '07, we just went ahead and ordered it. Why not? We knew we wanted it and would get it anyway, so why put miles on someone else's new car? Ours will be here in a few days and we'll test drive it then. This is, however, the first new car I've ever bought without a test drive. This isn't like buying new shoes without trying them on first...I know this will fit!!!
Bought mine off the showroom floor in October 2004. It was after hours and the salesman stayed until we got there about 9:30 PM. My wife actually bought the car over the phone and then told me about it that afternoon. After work, we hopped in the car and drove about 100 miles to the dealer to pick it up.
Before I bought my 06 I test drove an 05 and almost didn't buy the car. It had an abundance of power but all kinds of annoying squeeks and rattles. I also couldn't fit comfortably in the car.....After getting screwed around by the dealer I went somewhere else and just sat in the 06. With the different steering wheel and some seat adjustments I fit much better. Also all the squeeks were from the second top locked into the hatch. I didn't even test drive it, just said wrap her up!
My 07 was the same way....took one look at her and said I'll take it! Drove it off the showroom floor thirty minutes later! From start to finish it took only three and a half hours from my initial phone call until I was home with my new car and three hours were traveling to and from the dealership! Amazing experience.
I guess I figured it's a Vette and I didn't need to test drive it....
First saw the car on the Dealers showroom floor on Friday w/16 miles, test drove w/salesman for 5 miles. Bargained with price and trade in of my SRT4, no deal. Came back Saturday, bargained again with the SRT4 AND my 4Runner for trade, wasn't real happy with the price. Came back Monday, bargained some more and finally got a trade in and discount from sticker I could live with so we test drove again. Back to the showroom, now 36 miles on the car. Left the 4Runner, went back and got the SRT4 and a BIG Bank check and drove the 'Vette out Monday afternoon.
When the C6 first came out and after reading-up on the car, it was a 'done deal'.... I wanted one. I went to a large, local dealership and they had one in the showroom exactly like I wanted. They were reluctant to let me test drive it. I don't know if they wanted to check my Dunn & Bradstreet rating or what....I was an all-cash buyer.
When the guy finally offered to push it outside so I could start it and listen to it I said F this! I immediately called the car broker I use and told him what I wanted....without actually ever test driving the C6 first.
The car broker is great....no paperwork, no deposits, no game-playing and no hassles. I tell him what I want and he gets it. How much I save depends on the supply and demand and the particular car but he often saves me quite-a-bit over what a dealership charges. With one of the Suburbans I ordered (with a custom leather interior) he actually dropped it off to me on a Friday and said bring me a check next week. Not any dealerships I know are this easy to work with.
When the new C6 arrived I was somewhat disappointed because the car broker (instead of getting the car through a dealer in another city as he generally does) ordered my C6 through the commercial/fleet division of the same dealership that wouldn't let me test drive the car. When I brought the car in to the main dealership location for the first oil service, the same salesman saw me and ran up to see if I was still interested in buying a C6. I pointed to my car in the service line and said "you should have let me take a test drive." He got the point but not the commission.
