Isn't On Star also like a Lo Jack system. If someone steals your car can't On Star locate it like Lo Jack ?

Yes. Assuming the battery is not disconnected, and it is within 48 hours of the last ignition cycle.

I dread the day that GM mkes OnSnitch standard in all their vehicles. I firmly feel that it's system wide installation is another step in the wrong direction for GM. It's installation & activation should be left up to the buyer. Problem is, once standard, the dealer will activate OS as part of the pre-delivery. Thank fully, there is a fuse that can be pulled !

That will not be my problem, if GM does that I will not by another GM.
If it comes as standard equipment I will get something different. Its GMs lose as I have bought over 40 New cars & trucks from them.
Getting tired of my GM car not being able to be configured the way I want it. Way too many default settings and systems I cannot control the way I want to; DRL/twilight sentanal as a example

I share your pain. I'm looking forward to buying a new Camaro drop top to replace the Volvo. If OnSnitch is standard, I'll buy a Mustang.

I've read threads where a guy carped about a lot less.

I am none to happy when an "outside force" takes over something of mine.

Interesting responses to my post.

Did not buy the Vett for the already installed ON STAR. Both Vetts have it. Did not use one of them one time.

Got another "its your last chance to send us some money" letters from ON STAR!

I've had a peace of mind without ON STAR for decades now. Did not cost me a monthly payment. Now why is that?

Door still opens each time I walk up to it with my FOB. Car still starts when it has gasoline in it. Car still goes to the shop for routine maintenance. Car still functions when I push the button.

All that performance, no thanks to a monthly payment to ON STAR. Why would I want to pay up to 200 dollars per car per year for a lock out? I will just use my key...and the spare FOB is only a cell phone call away. If I travel out of area, I always take the second FOB with me. One FOB is always on my person. If I need a jump, I get the jumper cables from the back and ask for a jump! It has worked for years and years and years for me.

Not sure what the hang up with ON STAR is. Enjoy it if you like it. Your opinion is your opinion.

Back to the SPAM ON STAR memos. No thanks. Don't need them thank you. Maybe I can replace the mirror and the ON STAR equipment with that monthly payment I could be sending them.

OnStar is no different than insurance. You hope you never need it, but if you do it can be a life saver. It can open your door in a lock out. It can track a stolen car. And, it will call for help if you are unable to when an airbag is deployed. Just ask some of the people whose lives were saved by OnStar. I think that it is well worth the price. However, you are free to either not order the option or not renew it.

No one is disputing that OnSnitch is useful to those that want it. His gripe is that they continue to contact him to renew subscription for something he does not want.

Have'nt had that one happen yet with my 06 Buick (No charge for equipment/1 year free service expired 11/06). But I have received at least three phone calls from OnStar to my home at around 6 pm (dinner time). First time they called I told them I'm not interested in renewing their service. Now I just hang up on them! If they try to contact me while in my car, where did you say that fuse was?
To keep this response C6 related, I did not have it installed in my 05 coupe.

Default Not really an option if buying from dealer inventory

My observation is that 19 out of 20 dealer inventory cars are ordered with ONSTAR. They say people like it. But the truth is probably closer to a hugh profit on this option to the dealer.
