Don't know if this will help but here goes. There were numerous threads a while back about gas cap problems. One of the undocumented "FEATURES" of the C6 seems to be the "easy on/easy off" cap. As it turns out, the harder you press on the gas cap while putting it on, the less likely it will go on correctly. In other words, use the least amount of pressure you can when putting on the cap. Just place it in the filler neck then turn until you hear the clicks.
This worked on my C6 and never had to replace the cap.
I agree. After about 22 months, I got the same "check gas cap" message. I recalled reading on the Forum about tightening the cap as loosely as possible (if that makes sense). I tried it and haven't had the "check gas cap" message since.
I did call the dealership (essentially to see if they would just give me another gas cap) and was told the "check gas cap" message could be caused by something other than the gas cap itself (perhaps a leak elsewhere). Since the error message went away, I doubt there is a leak anywhere else. I will have the gas cap checked the next time I need to take the car to the dealership for anything.
I have a 2006 vert....After about 4 months my gas cap would not catch.....it would just spin.......Dealer ordered new cap.......New cap was missing the plastic peg that holds in in place.....The mechanic went into the showroom and removed the peg from the vett on the floor..
Replaced by dealer.....warranty.......It's really hard to belive that GM is having so many problems with gas caps.......You would think that by now they would know how to make them....after all they have been in business for a while.
We spend this much money for a car....and have gas cap problems !!!
My dic displayed sometime ago the gas cap alert. I stopped and tighten it and it resolved. Then for awhile I had the check engine light on because an o2 sensor issue. I finally resolved that and the check engine light went away, but when I check the OBD the yellow light remained on while flashing the EV system (gas cap?). How long does it take the EV system to resolve or run its test. I always have difficulty closing the gas cap. I thought it was me, but now I wonder if the EV is not resolved because the cap is leaking.
