Advice request...Problems with early C6's??
Guys, here is my dilemma.
Wife & I are newbies to the Corvette world...of course we always liked em and wanted one, but couldn't afford one. Now we can.
Wife likes the C5's but REALLY likes the C6's. I worry that the '05 and '06's have too many "new model" problems. That thought process drives me to the high dollar '07, but I'm too cheap to comfortably watch our '07 depreciate at $400/month.
Am I being too paranoid concerning the '05 & '06's?? What are the known problems with them...GM fixing them adequately?? Is the '07 problem free??
Thanks, Bob

I have an 05 with 42,+++ miles, only a couple of minor problems fixed under warranty and no downtime to speak of. Car runs great. In fact, as I put the miles on it, it just got better.

My C6 (05) works great. No major issues. Some minor but all fixed quickly. It is OK in my book to buy a well maintained 05 unless you can still find a new 05 out there and then I would ask for a really good deal.

Thanks guys...rereading my post and I think it sort of implies that the 05 & 06 might not be any good...I sure hope nobody thought that was my meaning. I'm just a worry wart at heart and know that new model years have more problems than the later years...
The coupe top delamination is a known problem and I've heard something about an axle or torque tube problem??

Buy a well-taken-care-of one. Other than the roof being "fixed" last year, I've had no problems. Two oil changes. Still on first tire set. What a car car! What a country! God Bless America!

If you're getting an automatic, less issues in 05's.Glass top= no delam problem.Manual tranny-dead battery issue in some 05's and 6's,but mainly 05's.Don't worry if you get auto.I have an 05,9230 miles mn6 z51,only minor radio issues-fixed under warranty and a glass roof TSB for creaking fixed and it's all good now.05 manual needs to be left in reverse, not 06-07 .
08's will have 6.2L motor, more ponies.07's have two tone interior option.

it's an exquisite piece of engineering...and the curve of problems is directly proportional to the complexity of the machine. Have an 06 that I love! If you're concerned, go to an 07 for the enhanced warranty. Regardless, you will be happy...

I say buy a new C6 if you can find it at a great price otherwise buy used if you find it at a great price and buy an extended warrenty. If you are going to keep the car for a long time look at new if you are afraid of buying a first or second year C6.

My C6 vert 6 speed is an 05. Apart from a bad battery, I've had no problems with it. Only done 6,400 miles and it's never been in the rain.
Hopefully as it get older and the miles go up I won't get any problems. Good luck!

General rule of thumb is to never buy the first year of a new model so I would stick with a 2006 and with 2007s arriving there are some good deals on 2006s.

Check the service history of any vehicle you consider buying as well as noting the VIN. The FAQs section (in this forum) has links to many of the potential problems. The painted roof delamination issue affected many 2005 and 2006 model cars and was likely already corrected through a recall (repair and/or replacement of the roof panel). The crank-pulley bolt problem affected some very early 2005 models...again check the VIN to see if any particular 2005 car was affected and if so, check the service record to make sure it was repaired.
Any model year car can have a problem. FWIW my 2005 has been extremely reliable and trouble free.
