you know i really can't believe these dealerships let people work on our cars that haven't a clue. i recently moved and lost my #2 FOB I bought a new one last week. i thet told me i had tocome by with te car so they could program it i said fine put me downfor next week( today). i get there and right waay i should have known i was in trouble the service guy asked me for themilaage i said i'll get it and went over to the car with the # 1 fob in my pocket the guy comes running after me with the key and says you'll need this to open he door to get themileage i thought oh-oh. said he said it'll be about a half hour till thet get to the car. 2 hours later a guy comes out from service gets in the car and proceeds to turn every swithc in in the car on before he finally figures out how to start it almost an hour later he comes out and says the car is ready. i get the 2 sets of keys, pay and get ready to leave when he comes running out and saystheyhad some problem getting the new fob programmed i'd better try it. it didn't work he said the module in the car wasn't working right . why don't o bring it back another time when their corvette specialist is there. in other words he had no idea what to do. why couldn't he just say that in thebeginning and not waste my whole day? he said they'll pick thecar up at my office program it and drop itoff one day this week. i'm ytrying to decide do i let them try again or go someplace else? i know the finance guy he's the one who'll pick up and drop off the car/ the name of the dealership is seacoast chevy in ocean new jersey

Doesn't the Owner's Manual have instructions on how to train and program your new FOB, so that the dealer is unnecessary?

That's correct. But the procedure is so simple, even a dealership tech should be able to do it.

Do it yourself:

Matching Transmitter(s) to
Your Vehicle
Each keyless access transmitter is coded to allow only
transmitters programmed to your vehicle, to work. If
a transmitter is lost or stolen, a replacement can
be purchased and programmed through your GM dealer.
Your GM dealer can reprogram your vehicle so lost or
stolen transmitters no longer work with your vehicle.
Each vehicle can have a maximum of four transmitters
matched to it.
To match a new transmitter to your vehicle when
you have a recognized transmitter (two recognized
transmitters are required for Canadian owners),
do the following:
1. The vehicle must be off.
2. Have the recognized and new, unrecognized
transmitters on your person.
3. Go to the rear of the vehicle and insert the vehicle
key into the key cylinder located above the license
plate. See Hatch/Trunk on page 2-14 for more
information on the key cylinder.
4. Open the trunk.
5. Turn the key five times within five seconds.
6. The DIC will display READY FOR FOB #X, where
X can be 2, 3 or 4.
7. Place the new, unrecognized transmitter in the
glove box transmitter pocket with the buttons
facing towards the passenger’s side.
8. Once the transmitter is programmed, a beep will
sound. The DIC will display READY FOR #X,
where X can be 3 or 4, or MAX # FOBS LEARNED.
9. Press the ACC button (ignition switch).
The Canadian immobilizer standard requires Canadian
owners to see their GM dealer for matching new
transmitters when a recognized transmitter is not
available. United States owners are permitted to match
a new transmitter to their vehicle when a recognized
transmitter is not available. The procedure will require
three ten minutes cycles to complete the matching
process. Do the following:
1. The vehicle must be off.
2. Place the new, unrecognized transmitter in the
glove box transmitter pocket with the buttons
facing towards the passenger’s side.
3. Go to the rear of the vehicle and insert the vehicle
key into the key cylinder located above the license
plate. See Hatch/Trunk on page 2-14 for more
information on the key cylinder.
4. Open the trunk.
5. Turn the key five times within five seconds.
6. The DIC message will display OFF-ACCESORY
TO LEARN.
7. Press the ACC button (ignition switch).
8. The DIC will read WAIT 10 MINUTES and will
count down to zero, one minute at a time.
9. The DIC will display OFF-ACCESSORY TO
LEARN again.
10. Press the ACC button (ignition switch).
11. The DIC will read WAIT 10 MINUTES and will
count down to zero, one minute at a time.
12. The DIC will display OFF-ACCESSORY TO
LEARN again.
13. Press the ACC button (ignition switch).
14. The DIC will read WAIT 10 MINUTES and will
count down to zero, one minute at a time.
15. A beep will sound and the DIC will read READY
FOR FOB #1. At this time, all previously known
transmitters have been erased.
16. Once the transmitter is recognized and
programmed, a beep will sound and the DIC will
display READY FOR FOB #2.
If you have additional transmitters to program, take
transmitter 1 out of the transmitter pocket and place
transmitter 2 in the pocket. This can be done repeatedly
until up to four transmitters have be programmed.
The DIC will then display MAX # FOBS LEARNED and
will exit the programming mode.
When you are done programming transmitters, press
the ACC button (ignition switch).

When I first picked-up my C6 in March of 2005, the #2 fob wasn't working correctly. After the new fob arrived we just went through the programming procedure from the manual. I thought it as sort of 'wild' how you did it but it wasn't difficult to do.

You can program a new #2 fob for yourself but there are two methods of doing it. Add a fob, and erase all old fobs and relearn all fobs.

If you just add the new #2 fob it will not be the master #2 fob it will be the #3 fob and will not be recognized as the master #2 fob.
You need to do the full erase method and reprogram so that #1 and #2 will be the masters. If you have the memory package this will make a difference. If you dont have the 1sb/3lt the it only causes the display not to show the customizaions and radio presets will not be stored correctly.

The dealer redid my car fobs after I lost the #1 fob. The did it with a tech 2 scanner and it took about 45 minutes tops and I had it done while I waited.

Now #1 and number #2 work as the masters and I can add #3 and #4 for spares.

I hope that makes sense. If not Pm me and I can go into further detail.

I have 2 working fobs but would like 2 spares. As i read all your post I can do this as # 3 and #4 without upsetting #1 or #2. Do I have to get the new fobs from my original dealer or any dealer and how much will they cost. By the way my fobs don't match the one in my manual with the key inside Why?
Thanks you guys are the best information for a newcomer like me
By the way I love my Verte

FYI - I bought a third FOB for the '05 coupe I had just purchased and followed the instruction in the owners manual on how to program the new FOB. Only problem - is that you need to use the #2 FOB to program the #3 FOB ( and presumably the #3 FOB to program the #4). The Owners manual is not clear on this and I first tried to use the #1 FOB to program the #3 without success. Using the #2 FOB to program the #3 FOB worked fine. I only discovered this by trial and error.

i think that this is why they suggest that you READ the manual when you get the car. i'm not tossing stones here because I'M GUILTY OF THE SAME thing.
