Default does your shifter hit console when going to reverse?

After getting my recall flywheel/clutch replacement, it seems my shifter is pretty far to the right inside the cutout for it in the center console cover. For example, first gear looks dead center left-to-right. If shifting into reverse and pushing a little extra hard, it seems I can make contact with the right-edge of the console. Does anyone else notice this? I was thinking about pulling off the console, loosening the shifter bolts, and seeing if there's enough play to move the shifter slightly to the left. But if there's no play, I don't want to go to the trouble.

Does everthing else work ok? Back up lights, skip shift or dash light come on, reverse lock out (that keeps you from shifting into reverse above 7MPH) Clutch feel ok? Stick itsself feel positive and work OK?

If all is ok, doubt anything is wrong Even Mr Goodywrech could not screwup that bad or the car would act real bad.

I remember in my audi when I installed a short shifter that you can make an adjustment to the shifter position, but that was only if the gears were not going in smoothly. It should not hit and if it does take a ride to the dealer again and just someone sit with you in the car and show them exactly what you mean.

Not is my Vette, but the shifter in my CTS-V demo from work does! You do not have to push it in reverse very hard and it smacks the center console trim pretty good.

Nope, mine's pretty well centered.

The shifter mounts with a pair of rubber bushings, there's fore-aft adjustment room but no side-to-side. However, the bottom of the shifter is fixed by a plastic (I think) tailpiece. If this was not installed properly it could be tilted over a bit - that would be my best guess.

In any case, its not hard to take it out and check it out. Technically, you don't even have to pull the console, you can just pull the **** and the boot but you don't get much working room that way.

All the shift functions, lockout, reverse lights work just fine. And if I don't use more effort than required to go to reverse, I won't hit the console, but it's very easy to hit with a little more aggressive shift. The technician said there are no adjustments for this, so when I took it back for this problem and to get the boot to fit correctly, he really didn't spend the effort I asked him to on this. I was really hoping there was enough slop from left to right in the mounting holes to let me move left.

I suspect that your console wasn't reinstalled correctly.

This is NO shifter adjustment that will center it into the console.

Was there a problem with the shifter prior to taking the car to the dealer? My shifter doesn't come close either. Sounds like another dealer-induced f-up.

it was the flywheel/clutch recall (premature wear of the clutch caused by improperly machined flywheel--cars manufactured around last March had this problem) that led them to touch the car. Everything seems to fit correctly, though. The console doesn't look at all out of place. There was one other manual vette at the dealer that we played with, and it doesn't hit (although it's close). We had to start the car to get it to let us try to shift into reverse though. It seems the reverse lockout was engaged when the car was off.

when i had my stock shifter in it was fairly close (within .5 inch) but since i put the B&M in its real far. I would guess your console may not be in properly since the shifter has no lateral adjustment. Does the console line up front and rear where it should??

maybe it's a good excuse to put a short shifter in

my excuse was, so i wouldn't hit my hand on the cup in the cupholder

It does that. Apparently the reverse lockout is on by default, and only unlocks when you're (nearly) standing still. Which actually makes some sense, in a way.
