Hello, I recently purchased an 07. My former C5 did not have the indexing window feature, my question, I'm scheduled for window tint in a couple of weeks and the shop is saying that the only correct way to do this, is to remove my door panels Does this sound right? She only has 800 miles.
there is no reason to remove the door panels. If they want to do that, find another tint shop. The only consideration to be taken is to heat the bottom of the tint with a heat gun after installation, so that the indexing does not affect it while it is curing.
I'm not sure I understand, when the doors are open the glass is fixed down 1/2" - 3/4". On my C5, they simply had to open the doors with windows up and apply. Wouldn't I have the gap at the bottm when I got in? Thank you
You wouldn't believe what I went through to have my windows tinted. You ever been in one of those deals where the solution is so simple it blinds you?
Well this is one. With the door open, manually close the latch. The window will go back up while the door is open. You are effectively tricking the car into thinking the door is closed.
That's what I'm thinking, although they are a reputable shop. Maybe what rothchilds was getting at is they could apply the film and leave an inch or two long on the bottom and then get in an finish! Hopefully someone from the Phoeniz area will see this.
I'll spare you the story on when I got mine tinted and we were trying to figure a way to make the windows go up. Hell, I got locked out of my own car...
The biggest thing you really need to worry about is finding someone that can tint that rear window. See how it has the black stuff (proper desctiption is beyond me right now for some reason) at the top. When they tint that, it is VERY hard for them to get the tint to sit flat because of it. So what you will find is that from the outside it looks like (and actually is) the tint not being able to be pressed down to the window. It doesn't bother me but it does bother many so consider that.

Dot matrix. If you do anything less than 20% on the rear, it is very noticeable. I started with 35%, and it looked like My guys agreed and took it off and re-applied 20%, very acceptable dotting. Make sure they are doing the rear in one piece. If they can't go somewhere else.
Thanks for you help, I'm planning on installing the same thing as on my C5, 20% rear and 33% sides(maybe 50% this time). This shop does a lot of corvettes and euro's. My son made the appt. and was told he needed the car 5-6 hours and approx. $280-300. I'm going to call myself and get his plan.
I've got a stupid question, if when you open the door, the window indexes down, what happens if you leave the door open, but try to roll the window up w/ the switch?
I finally got-around to tinting my windows last week. The guy did not remove my door panel.
I went a bit darker on the hatch glass (versus the side windows) and there is still a small area on the dot matrix (near the top edge) that appears lighter...where the film did not seat completely around the dots. I've been rubbing this area down after the glass heats in the sun and it is shrinking but its not perfect.

That is how my tinter defeated the window indexing too.

This is how the Tint Shop did mine. He has been in business for 21 years.

Nothing happens, it thinks the window is already all the way up minus the indexing distance.
