The message will go away after a few cycles. If it doesn't the dealer has a revised cap that seals better than the original.
Hardly a "dreaded" warning IMO but at one point, I received the same message in my 2005. When I told my service advisor about the warning, he did not want to just give me a new gas cap.....he wanted to schedule a service appointment so they could check the fuel system for possible leaks.
The simple fix for me was to not screw the gas cap down as tight as possible. Instead, try screwing the gas cap on as loosely as you can. I do this and the fault message has never reappeared.
I will, however, have the dealership check whenever I take it there in the future.

I ALSO just screw it on very lightly while holding up on the cap. It clicks good this way and I have not had any more problems re the gas cap.
I saw this from a different forum member and mine was replaced last year because my gas cap kept popping off and all it took was a new gas cap. But not to worry they still did all the computer checking and also checked the neck line for a pin hole leak. Stay calm god knows my hubby was ready to sell her but it's all good now. And just incase your windows don't go all the way up to seal all you have to do is stop your car ..open the door, shut the door, hold the window button in the up position for 3 seconds and release then repeat this step and then you are good to go.
The new gas cap is only $13. from Bob@ Ken Fichner Chevrolet.Even if you are not having problems it may not be a bad idea to tuck one away, and certainly not worth a trip to the dealer for a warranty claim unless other things need done as well.I ordered one yesterday because mine is not latching all that well either.
